Super PAC Ad Likens Michele Bachmann To Tim Tebow

First Posted: 01/03/12 12:23 PM ET Updated: 01/03/12 01:03 PM ET

A Super PAC supporting Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann is running a TV ad in Iowa comparing the Minnesota congresswoman to beloved football quarterback Tim Tebow.

The No Compromise PAC says the "establishment" just "loves to hate" both Tebow and Bachmann, claiming the Denver Broncos quarterback makes sports fans feel guilty because the born-again Christian doesn't "drink, cuss, smoke, or kick opponents when they're down."

"The same could be said of Michele Bachmann: no baggage, Christian, and like Tebow, she keeps fighting and she just keeps winning votes," the ad goes.

Bachmann might want to be careful drawing any links between her campaign and the football star, however. Ever since fellow contender Texas Gov. Rick Perry invoked Tebow last month at the last GOP presidential debate in Iowa, the quarterback has been on a loosing steak.

Defending his struggling campaign, Perry painted himself as an underdog like Tebow. "There are a lot of folks that said Tim Tebow wasn't going to be a very good NFL quarterback ... Let me tell you, I hope I am the Tim Tebow of the Iowa caucuses," he said.

Perry's comment came shortly after a series of wins by Tebow spawned an internet phenomenon. But since then, the quarterback has had three consecutive losses. As The Huffington Post's Sam Stein tweeted: "ever since Rick Perry said he was the Tim Tebow of this GOP field, Tebow has been preforming like he’s the Rick Perry of QBs."

Something else Bachmann and Tebow have in common: Both have invoked God to win. Bachmann, polling in sixth place in Iowa, said confidently this weekend, "We expect to see a miracle."

More Culture Warrior Than Legislator?

In Matt Taibbi's Rolling Stone profile of Bachmann, he claims that Bachmann's efforts to portray herself as a righteous and religious culture warrior prompt additional questions and skepticism:

Bachmann's story, to hear her tell it, is about a suburban homemaker who is chosen by God to become a politician who will restore faith and family values to public life and do battle with secular humanism. But by the time you've finished reviewing her record of lies and embellishments and contradictions, you'll have no idea if she actually believes in her own divine inspiration, or whether it's a big con job. Or maybe both are true -- in which case this hard-charging challenger for the GOP nomination is a rare breed of political psychopath, equal parts crazed Divine Wind kamikaze-for-Jesus and calculating, six-faced Machiavellian prevaricator. Whatever she is, she's no joke.

Despite skepticism and opposition from some, however, Bachmann's particular blend of conservatism has undoubtedly propelled her to the top tier of the GOP, at least in the public eye. Her legislative record, both as a state representative and a congresswoman, however, has been less impressive.

Bachmann's legislative deficiencies most recently arose when then-Republican presidential candidate and former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty claimed that his rival's legacy amounted to "giving speeches and offering failed amendments," and that her "record of accomplishment in Congress is nonexistent."

Politifact deemed this charge to be "Mostly True," hanging their judgment in part on a Politico piece that summarized her meager accomplishments as such:

Now in her third House term, Bachmann has never had a bill or resolution she's sponsored signed into law, and she's never wielded a committee gavel, either at the full or subcommittee level. Bachmann's amendments and bills have rarely been considered by any committee, even with the House under GOP control. In a chamber that rewards substantive policy work and insider maneuvering, Bachmann has shunned the inside game, choosing to be more of a bomb thrower than a legislator.

I hope she loses big time and then does she blame god or will it be the media?

Bachmann's campaign manager, God, told her to drop out because he (God) could not fully concentrate on her campaign because he had other work with all those NFL teams he is involved with and all those plays he has his hand in, especially Tebow's. God also said that maybe next presidential run he can concentrate on Bachmann's campaign if he can find a way to have someone else perform those miracles, births, deaths, earthquakes, tornados, lottery winners, beating tickets from police, and hearing his name screamed out at every sexual climax.

Here's how Bachmann and Tebow are alike. They are both religious hypocrites in the words of Jesus.

Matthew 6:5-6 "
And when you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward. But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which sees in secret shall reward you openly."

“Bachmann: "We expect to see a miracle."

Jesus (when the Devil said he expected to see a miracle): "Thou shalt not test the Lord thy God."

Seems like the comparison is turning out to be painfully accurate. In a more perfect world, Bachmann would have held off dropping out of the race for the weekend, to time it to coincide with Tebow's butt getting kicked out of the playoffs by Pittsburg.

Well, let's see...

Both are terrible at their job
Both are polarizing
Both love the limelight
Both believe they are worthy
Both are living in denial
Both are over paid for what they actually do
Both have fans that are easily duped
Both wear their religious beliefs on their sleeve and use them for personal gain
Both will soon be forgotten

Yeah, I would say she is the very much like Mr. Tebow

They are both Sky Daddy drones without a clue.

Their not exactly the same. I think Bachmann prolly has a more accurate throwing arm. Tebow is a bit better at running....though not much better.

Bachmann and Tebow are exactly alike.

They are both losers, and will soon be unemployed.

Tebow probably would have done better in the Iowa caucus. Try again MB.

Ridiculous. Tebow would have had a chance in Iowa.

There is one way Tebow and Bachmann are similar: They are both closet cases.
