Demi Lovato Talks 'Brutal' Fights With Miley Cyrus

If you follow former Disney starlets Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus on Twitter, then you know the two seem close as ever. But in a new interview with Seventeen, Lovato opens up about her celebrity friends and reveals her relationship with Cyrus is a volatile one.

"There are two people that no matter how many times we fight we will always be in each other's lives," she tells the magazine. "Selena [Gomez] and I, we never fight. She's not a confrontational person at all, but Miley Cyrus and I are strong headed. When we fight it's brutal and we're like, 'We're never going to be friends again! Then two days later, were like, 'I love you and I miss you!"

We've seen instances of Lovato and Cyrus feuding between spurts of friendship for years. Back in 2008, Cyrus and her 22-year-old friend Mandy Jiroux posted a video on YouTube that mocked Demi and Selena. After Miley apologized for the video and the two had made up we witnessed another public spat that played out on Twitter in 2009.

Cyrus wasn't met with the same enthusiasm for their friendship when she tweeted, "Now this is what true friendship looks like. None of that hollywood crap.** @ddlovato I miss you :)" and Lovato replied, "Yeah... it's just kind of hard to miss somebody that I don't know anymore."

The two are on good terms now, but Lovato's erratic behavior stemming from her battle with eating disorders and other emotional issues (for which she went to treatment) contributed to a strain on all her relationships.

"I'm not gonna lie. I was self-medicating," she told the magazine. "I was doing things like drinking and using [drugs], like a lot of teens do to numb their pain. [But now] I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I don't throw up after my meals, I don't starve myself. There's nothing that I do that I feel ashamed of."

Yet sometimes, she admits, it's the tough times that let you know who your real friends are. "Both [Miley and Selena] will never leave my life no matter what happens, because we've been through so much together," she said.

I used to think I was a smart consumer and now I realize that all I do is add further fuel to the entertainment industry engine that presents scene after scene of spoiled brats acting the part far into adulthood and then I'm obligated to feel sorry for them through their trips to rehab and subsequent reemergence back into a society to which they've contributed nothing of real substance?

I may be a dumb consumer, but I admire people who seek to serve others through sacrifice and commitment rather than serving themselves.

Demi is bringing light to a lot of issues that many teens deal with and no one really confronts. This issues are real and shouldn't be treated like taboo. She talks openly about bullying, drug use, eating disorders, and depression. These are things that young adults deal with frequently and kudos to her for using her fame to bring attention to these issues. She is very brave to share her demons with the world, because it could cause a lot of people to think differently of her. For all of you posters who are saying "some teens" and not "most teens" self medicate, having eating disorders, depression, etc. obviously are not of this generation. I am nineteen and many of my peers at my high school dealt with these things. Times have changed,

I think it is refreshing how candid Demi is about everything! Good for her... too many in her shoes hold everything in when they could be sharing their ordeal and showing others, especially like in her case with a mostly teen fan base, that it is OK to admit that you have a problem and that it is OK to get help when you need it!

I really can't stand people who are so self-righteous and judgmental. Drinking and drug abuse isn't about entitlement issues. It's not even all about intelligence- even smart people sometimes do t\stupid things. At my old school there was a public scandal because our valedictorian overdosed in the girls' bathroom and almost died. A lot of times stress, emotional pain, and mental illness are behind drug use.

*Some* teens may do it, that doesn't mean *a lot* do it. Just because she and others like her can't handle life, at such a young age, doesn't mean nobody has. Plenty of people deal with stress, emotional pain and mental illness without resorting to drugs, alcohol or any other self-destructive behavior. She's young, attractive and rich, sounds like she just needs to suck it up a little, especially in this day in age.
