Even when issues don't seem to have an impact on the Democratic National Convention coming to Charlotte in September, they do.

For instance, the convention was noted by Maria Hanlin, executive director of Mecklenburg Ministries, before she introduced Souls of Our Neighbors: Fears, Facts and Affordable Housing. A crowd filled the Wells Fargo Auditorium at the Knight Theater on Tuesday to view the 28-minute documentary that presents Charlotte's increasing problem of homelessness and the struggles of the working poor to find housing through the eyes of six families.

I say bring the six families INTO the centre and ONTO the stage and have them tell their stories. People seems to have forgotten how the homeless are not only the ones on drugs. There are those who have lost their homes because of the foreclosure crisis (hence the need for a consumer watchdog agency). It is not an issue limited to the cities to deal with. Homelessness has been a growing problem in this country and around the world since the earliest days of civilization, and it is getting worse. It is an issue that will affect all social classes eventually, and threatens the survival of all domestic and global economies. Homelessness needs to get more exposure time as an issue because it is very real. Only then can people REALLY begin to even think up of real solutions to this common problem humanity faces.

no problem, just do what indianapolis is doing for the superbowl, hide the homeless in a tent city out of sight of the TV cameras.
