Brian Williams Squirms When David Letterman Mocks John Boehner's Crying (VIDEO)

First Posted: 01/05/12 03:18 PM ET Updated: 01/05/12 03:21 PM ET

David Letterman made Brian Williams squirm on Wednesday night when he took aim at John Boehner's crying. That's because Williams is scheduled to interview Boehner later this week.

Williams smiled awkwardly at the camera after Letterman said that Boehner "will cry like a guy on drugs." The newsanchor admitted, "This makes me highly uncomfortable. I have to sit down with him this week for an interview."

"Well, pass this along," Letterman answered, prompting Williams to grimace. The late night host compared Boehner's crying to the time that he took a Valium and sobbed at a McDonald's commercial. He said that he was not suggesting that Boehner has a drug problem -- at which point Williams shook his head and warily braced himself for what was coming.

Letterman theorized that "there has been trauma in [Boehner's] life" and "he needs some sort of counseling." Williams joked that he would give Boehner the message.

He listed some of his own emotional moments on-air, which included reporting on September 11 and from Afghanistan when colleague Tim Russert died. Letterman objected, "[Boehner] can't get an elevator, he starts to sob. It's a different meal." Watch Williams' hilarious reaction in the clip above.

The Boehner only cries about himself; which reveals a very narcissistic personality.

HuffPo does this all the time. They see a TV listing, just search YouTube for a clip of it, don't bother checking the date, summarize, and post. I assume their story monkeys get a commission for each lazy post.

Since there has been no evidence of Boehner's weeping lately you have to post something over a year old just to keep him in the negative news?

Bri-Wi should switch to comedy because he's not interested in telling you what's really going on.

Williams may have been embarrassed, but Letterman was right.

I love Letterman's don't-give-a-**** attitude about who he riducules. He's now so rich and such a staple in the lineup that can work at his job as long as he wants to.

I wish Brian Williams and other corporate news excecs would be so bold. Not in a comical way obviously, but face it, the Republican candidates are a group of clowns, from the Party of No, who have no ideas or solutions of their own other than to take down Obama and grab power. Yet they always get respected as some kind of honorable opposition.

Though this is a year old, you should see the interview BW did with Boehner, more softballs than a Fox interview.

The guy is a closet conservative and BFF of Rush Limbaugh, he should stick to doing talk shows and leave the "journalism" to the professionals.

I think Brian Williams is just as funny as any comedian out there.

Funny but there is truth to what he is saying "why does the man cry so much?".

Something odd about this. This part was not shown on my TV. I tape Letterman to watch the following day. I watched the 1/4/2012 show on 1/5/2012 and this segment was not shown. Thought first it had been edited out. But then noticed Williams is wearing a black and gold stripped tie in this clip and a soft blue solid tie in the on air. Can anyone explain this???

It's a year old! Look on You Tube - you'll find the rest of it. I still don't understand why this was posted this week - unless HuffPo people are just now cleaning out their DVRs...

Hilarious.

PS I'm assuming BW meant to say first guest of "2012".

No, he didn't because this was last year's interview - right before NBC went to Capitol Hill for the day. Not sure why this was posted.

seems that news anchors of the past acutally held politicians accountable for their actions/inactions. BW doesn't wants to passify bohener because he is meeting with him later in the week? Did i understand that correctly. We have a soft media. Our comedians (a handful of them) are the new washington watchdogs.
