Ed Schultz To Liberal Critics: 'Shut Up!' (VIDEO)

Ed Schultz

Ed Schultz posted a heated YouTube video on his MSNBC show's blog Wednesday night, to respond to viewers who have criticized his analysis of GOP candidate Rick Santorum.

Schultz traveled to Iowa the week before the caucuses to interview Santorum. He described the candidate as "impressive," and skilled at "retail politics." While Shultz said that he did not agree with any of Santorum's positions, he did think that Santorum was gaining more momentum in Iowa than his poll numbers indicated. During MSNBC's coverage of the Iowa caucuses Tuesday night, Schultz further commented on Santorum's growing appeal to voters.

Schultz took to his blog to address critics who, according to Schultz, accused him of "eating Santorum's salad," and calling him a "turncoat."

Schultz had a simple response: "shut up!" Schultz seemed frustrated by the criticism and said he went "as an objective reporter" to find out what was happening on the ground in Iowa. "Whether you like it or not," Shutlz said, "Santorum is as good as President Obama with a crowd."

Schultz said that the criticism "kind of pissed him off" but did not get "under [his] skin." Shultz asked, "are we at the point now on the Ed Show, that I can't go out and do an objective story?"

Schultz's facial expressions were quite animated during his heated message to critical viewers. After the video, view a slideshow of some of Schultz's facial expressions.

Santorum lives in a make believe Christian world occupied by evangelists and the Pope if he cannot accept that there are gays in this world that are just as capable as straight couples at raising a family. Although I do not share their philosophy I will always defend their rights under the constitution just as I do for any other U.S. citizen. We, as a nation need to get out of bedroom legislation and let whatever two consenting adults do in private, stay private.
Can someone tell me how any of this creates jobs. You remember job creation mr. Republican, that was the promise you made to get into office and the house majority. Now how many jobs bills have you passed since attaining office? I don't count legislation you supported that "set the conditions for job creators" and I don't count legislation you proposed in which you cleverly inserted "poison pills" so Democrats would not pass it. Your "laser focused on job creation" time was used up in legislation naming post offices, reaffirming the national motto and other such foolish endeavors.

Even Obama's harshest critics will acknowledge his acumen as an orator or campaigner. Most liberals acknowledge the same traits in Reagan. Why can't Schultz note the same thing with Santorum? It has nothing to do with approving of his policies.

Santorum deserves no praise for skills honed to deliver bigotry.

Ed may open his heart as he pleases privately without taking incoming fire, but professionally, he must be more astute. Santorum should receive praise from Ed on air. It's not healthy to praise a person that spews hatred for a living. Santorum does exactly that to win an election.

He's an angry man and hates other points of view. Doesn't matter if you agree with them or not, don't hate them.

I like Ed. He focuses on economic issues; not social issues.

Ed's point is that the further to the fringy right the GOP candidates are pushed by Santorum, they will be forced to defend their radical statements in the general election. I agree. The more Santorum that Romney gets on himself, the better.

I'm a regular viewer of Ed's show and just knew he was going to catch flack for his "objective" comments about Santorum.

Anyone who really listens to Ed must know how he feels about the GOP's "direction" (if you want to call it that). So the idea that he can't honestly comment on Santorum's performance on the campaign trail is simply ludicrous. Come on folks, you can completely disagree with a candidate's policies and commentary, but still be impartial when it comes to his effectiveness in reaching out to his Party.

That said, I think Ed has a tendency to sometimes get a bit snippy with those who are his biggest supporters, especially if he feels they are being unjust in the criticism. I also personally believe that Santorum would be easier to beat than some of the other contenders and that is just fine with me.

Ed said he disagrees with Santorum's views.
