'24 Hour Catwalk': Team Richard Has Too Much Shoulder, Not Enough Bra (VIDEO)

First Posted: 01/06/12 06:25 AM ET Updated: 01/06/12 11:58 AM ET

The "Project Runway" empire continues to expand with the debut of "24 Hour Catwalk" (Thu., 10 p.m. EST on Lifetime), hosted by Alexa Chung. But while "PR" takes a whole season to crown a winner, "24 Hour" can do it in a single episode. It starts with four designers, and after one challenge cuts the number in half.

After the initial challenge, the contest was between JoAnn and Richard, who were each given a team of three to help them sew three designs from the contents of a trunk in 24 hours. Richard struggled with a 1980s inspired jacket. "I think the big shoulder thing is always hard to do," judge James LaForce told him. "There's a reason we left that shoulder in the '80s."

But the bigger problem was under the jacket, where Richard's model was sporting a rather sheer top and no support underneath. As his model walked down the runway, Richard lamented some of his choices. "She's got some nipple action goin' on ... Oh my god, I can't believe I let this jacket go down the runway," he said. When he asked the judges how they might have liked the look sans jacket, LaForce quipped, "We might have suggested she put on a bra in that case."

For Richard, it was time to say goodbye, as JoAnn was crowned the winner of this 24-hour challenge. Next week, it starts over with a whole new batch of designers. It's certainly a fast-paced twist on the format, but does it take away too much of the drama by giving viewers no chance to connect with the contestants?

"24 Hour Catwalk" continues on Thursdays at 10 p.m. EST on Lifetime, right after new episodes of "Project Runway: All Stars."

TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.

Where is Alexa Chung's fashion sense? Her face is pretty but her body looks like a bag of bones and she proceeds to cover it with a series of patato bags. I guess there is none. .

What is up with Alexa Chung? Her face is pretty. But the rest of her looks like a bag of bones covered by a variety of patato bags. What happened to her fashion sense? She has none.

If I walk outside without a shirt on, it should be blurred. A model...not so much. If given a choice, many would want to blur me with my clothes on.

Very interesting. A designer doesn't know that the top they are sending down the runway is completely sheer, hmmmm...... He knew he was sending a see through top down that runway, and it was intentional. Just like every other designer that sends a completely sheer top down the runway knows it's gonna show everything. The designer intentionally don't put a bra on the model. That "didn't know" crap, is bull...........

I thought the show was pretty entertaining (mash-up of "Project Runway" and "Chopped"), but reality competition shows are my preferred mindless entertainment escape so, food, fashion, art, fantasy hair, dog grooming, it's all good... ;)

And I agree with everyone who bemoaned our society's prudish attitude towards naked bodies!

I can see blood from suicide bombings in Iraq, people getting executed by Taliban firing squads in Afghanistan, and the gory footage of a dying Libyan dictator on American TV. But seeing female breasts on American TV is somehow disturbing? What is with this country?

What's hot is the fact that the young lady had the confidence to dress that way.

If Richard hadn't been sabotaged by his helper Raymona, he would probably have won. Raymona wasted time, fought with him, trashed him, and went out of her way to make a crappy jacket then blame it on him. Overall, it's a good show. I'll keep watching.
