Chelsea Clinton's NBC News Tenure May Be Over Soon: Report

Chelsea Clinton just made her NBC News debut in December, but the New York Post reports that her correspondent gig may soon be over.

Clinton signed on as an NBC News correspondent for the network's "Making A Difference" series in November. The news surprised members of the press and even Clinton's own mother, given the former First Daughter's penchant for avoiding the media. Her contract is for 90 days — something that was publicly revealed when she first signed with NBC. But according to the Post, Clinton hasn't decided whether or not she'll re-up.

A source told the paper that the network "created unrealistic expectations. Chelsea wanted a 90-day contract to see if she liked it. It’s possible she will do more for NBC in the future, [but] she doesn’t know if she’ll sign another contract."

An NBC News spokesperson denied those reports and said that Clinton had been "warmly welcomed" into the news division.

being inside my discomfort zone is not. Chelsea may be wise simply to keep her career as heiress to her parents mega millions.

Why?

I saw her first news report and that was it, and as much as I admire her, I'm sorry to "report" she was not good at all. She severely lacks "on air" charisma.

As you said, it was here FIRST TIME, fer cryin' out loud! Lighten up some. Have you ever been in front of a TV camera with your image and words beamed to millions of people? Bet not. Not picking on you solely, but there are many negative (read "envious") comments on this thread.
11:08 PM on 01/09/2012
I agree, starting at the top is not a good thing. Too much exposure, but she will do well if she stays on board and learns the system. Unfortunately she may find, its a tough, competitive business.

Wow! I think it is "you" who needs to lighten up. You seem just way too upset about something so trivial. It's people like you who like to start a bunch of crap on these types of blogs/websites because you can't just read others' comments/posts without having to attack someone for stating their own thoughts, just simply because you disagree with them. AS I SAID, I truly like Chelsea.....however, whether it was her first, or fiftieth report, she lacks charisma. Period. I'm not saying I don't want her to go far in life and do well, but if she wants to make a career in journalism, she needs to start small and at the bottom, like 99% of the others do. Please take it easy. I can't imagine how upset you'd get if this story was about something actually important. Geesh!

Given Chelsea's intelligence and sweet nature, I'd think she would be well suited for working to solve problems of America's underprivileged.

Yeah, maybe she could start a business, a lumber mill maybe like Scarlet did, and hire some of those poor folks who can't find work.

It is a story because somebody told it. It isn't a story that should be told, but somebody did it. Why did they do it? Not a clue.

and by implication, evidently, NBC also has a choice in the matter. The real news is the "90 day" speed date, it seems.

You should start talking to conservatives. We talk about the liberal elites all the time. We can even give you a list of them. McCain, Obama, Kerry, Carter, there are lots and lots.

Case study in what happens to a person that has too many opportunities thrown their way. They end up becoming bums, because they never had to really suffer to get where they wanted to be.

Actually, most rich people are conservatives and they stay in one field and try to become richer 'cause it's easier that way. Want me to tell you more of our tricks? Like how to start a business and create jobs? We're good at stuff like that. Be glad to teach you. And it's a lot more fun than pretending you're helping by spooning out gruel in a soup kitchen. We prefer building factories where people can work so they don't need soup kitchens. Wanna come help us?
