Daniel Radcliffe On Love And Life After 'Harry Potter'

Daniel Radcliffe spent 10 years of his life playing the world's most famous boy wizard, and now that he's left Hogwarts behind him, he opens up about life after "Harry Potter."

The 22-year-old actor stars in the upcoming "The Woman in Black," his first film since giving up his wand, and tells Parade magazine he doesn't feel pressure to recreate the success of the Potter series with his future work.

Radcliffe says he doesn't fear his star burning out, but says it's a reality. "I have accepted that. It's a great relief that I will never, ever do a film as successful as the Harry Potter series. But neither will anybody else," he said with a laugh. "Or it will take them a long time."

The actor, who broke away from his wizard work with performances on Broadway in "Equus" and "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying" also opened up to the magazine about his love life with girlfriend Rosie Coker.

The star says he's "absolutely" in love with Coker, who he's been dating since August and tells Parade, "When Rosie's here, every day seems better ... I'm not an easy person to love. There are lots of times when I'm a very good boyfriend but there are times when I'm useless."

Radcliffe is utterly self-deprecating as he calls himself a "mess around the house" who talks "nonstop" and becomes "obsessed with things." But says Coker puts up with him anyway, loving him for his oddness and awkwardness and the things he says he hates about himself.

Radcliffe also spoke about his decision to give up alcohol. In July, he told GQ UK that he had become reliant on alcohol to enjoy things and recognized the problem before it started.

Half a year later he tells Parade that he felt like his "inner life was being drowned."

"I've worked with Richard Harris, Gary Oldman, all those actors who went crazy when they were young, and I always wanted that. The idea of that kinds of life and chaos was always so appealing to me," he admitted. "Unfortunately, the way I do it, there is no romance in it! There is nothing glorious or triumphant about it -- it was pathetic, boring, and unhappy."

Why do British child actors seem to be unscathed by the experienced and turn into normal, non-addicted, sensible adults?

I think because they are more grounded to begin with. Daniel has great parents who always put his needs first and did not fill his head full of grandiose thoughts about fame and his own ego. My daughter had a crush on him for many years and I was happy to see her admire someone who is dedicated to what he does and is not just interested in all the publicity and attention he can get from it.

I always felt so bad about having a crush on Daniel Radcliffe from harry potter because he was underage and I felt like a dirty old woman. Now he's 22 so let the dirty thoughts begin!!!!

On the main page where you clicked on the article...the little addendum to the link said "reason why he is scared to date" or something to that effect. 100% sure the word scared was used.

Guess you didn't read the girlfriend part. Guess it wouldn't change you mind if you did.

Not at all. See so many of them do this..Ricky Martin, that Nsync guy..they all think their careers will be hurt if they come out of the closet so they hide it until they are no longer relevant...and think they are doing something courageous. Personally i don't care who you go to bed with as long as whatever you do, song, dance, act, entertains me...but they think we care for some reason. So yes, I believe he's gay..and nothng he says can really make me doubt it. I've got pretty good gaydar for a straight guy.

Believe it or not, but some famous people aren't gay.

Um, what? Hey editor, are you awake?

What a great person. I'm glad that he is smart enough not to get caught up in that black hole that a lot of child actors get sucked into with drugs and alcohol. It only looks romantic on the outside but as he said about his own experience, it is pathetic, boring and unhappy. I wish him well in his life, no matter what endeavors he chooses.

I wish him the best of luck in everything he does and glad to see he's happy :)

Daniel, yes keep in touch as the years grow! Tell your Potter buds to do so, too. Much success to you in your future:)
