Katy Perry's Parents: Divorce Was Sent By God

Katy Perry's evangelist parents have an unusual take on the pop star's recent split from Russell Brand -- that the divorce was God's way of getting people to church.

"I'm sure Katy is trending on the internet just to get you to church tonight," Perry's mom Mary Hudson jokingly told worshippers at the Church On The Rise congregation in Ohio Wednesday. "I mean all over the world, who knows how God is bringing them in? The most important thing is you are here and God wants to put the fire in you in 2012."

According to Britain's The Sun, the church promoted the Hudsons' appearance on a board outside the building that read, "Katy Perry s Parents Jan 4 & 5" (sic).

Brand filed for divorce last week, citing "irreconcilable differences." He said in a statement: "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

The Sun reports that Brand -- a Buddhist -- was at odds with Perry's religious parents and mocked their beliefs. Perry has also spoken out against her evangelist upbringing, though she and her parents are on good terms.

"I didn't have a childhood," she told Vanity Fair in May 2011.

Perry and Brand married in India in October 2011. They split after 14 months of marriage.

There have been many reports as to what went wrong; some claim Perry couldn't satisfy Brand's sexual needs, others suggest Brand wasn't a supportive husband, and still others insist the couple simply couldn't get along.

They reportedly have no prenup, which means Brand may be entitled to some of Perry's estimated $44 million fortune.

Katy is so adorable and Russell is gross and not very talented and certainly not a funny guy. A remake of "Arthur?" Please, there is no way I would ever watch that and I'm sure it was horrible. Russell Brand is NO Dudley Moore. He has no class and no real humor. Granted, I usually love British comedians but not this one. Getting away from him is the best thing she has ever done.

Can you see Russell having to sit through that hypocritical bull? I mean the man has a brain, it must have been hell! He is a spiritual man I believe he would respect genuine belief but these people have seriously skewed, hypocritical thinking. Very selfish people and really changing the churches teaching to suit themselves is not exactly doing Gods work. And Katy Perry the little God fearing, gospel singer? I don't think so. Well that's unless God said it's alright to sing songs about killing people, party every night, disrespect your husband and wonder around half dressed in toddler print clothing and caked in make up and doing anything to make money.

That's the ONLY reason why Perry tweeted damage control-weak at that. She can't hide what she is , what she really stands for and who her parents are now.

I don't care who you are but 9 years is a generational gap (36-27) and people are different let alone being from 2 different countries and cultures (even tho US and Britain are white they are very different). I knew at 36 not to be doing the same things I was at 27. He was ready to nest, she still had itches only a c*ck could scratch. imho

Russel it's unfortunate that a divorce is required it seem now everything is expendable. Time to move on she will need you in a few years when that Rapid rise is met with a much more radical Rapid/Vapid decline.

Katy was successful in her music career before she met Russell and I bet she'll continue to be successful for many years to come.

She's not just a performer, she plays instruments like guitar and writes a lot of her own songs. She even wrote a new country sounding tune which is actually pretty good. Country fans will probably like it.

Katy could be a songwriter for another 20 years if she wanted to .... even if her own recording and performing career slows down. I bet Katy has a pretty good career ahead for her in the movies and more TV. Maybe not big leading parts in movies but some co-starring roles, etc. Katy's way more than just a pretty face and body.

You sound like her public relations.Katy Perry was dumped by two major labels (Island and Columbia) for a reason-she can't sing and she has nothing to say. If she hadn't jacked up her birth control, been asked to clone Lily Allen and started talking about her breasts 24/7 Capitol would have chucked her too. Her only message to little girls is her chest without it one would care about her.
