Israel: 5 Alleged Jewish Extremists Indicted In Military Base Rampage

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Justice Ministry has indicted five alleged Jewish extremists in connection with a rampage at an Israeli army base in the West Bank last month.

On Dec. 13, dozens of settlers and their supporters entered the base, vandalized property and attacked military personnel.

According to Sunday's indictment, the five helped plan the rampage in hopes of foiling the evacuation of illegal settlement outposts in the West Bank. They are to remain in custody until the end of proceedings.

The attack shocked Israeli leaders, who called for a crackdown on Jewish radicals. Extremists are also suspected of vandalizing another military base and attacking Palestinian mosques, cars and farmlands over the past two years.

The violence is believed to be retaliation for government concessions to Palestinians.

Since this discussion is still active, I thought it would be interesting to dredge some hasbara from the depths of the thread just to track the current hasbara themes.

A commenter, Teacher_15, wrote (in response to a comment I made about US financial support of Israel):

"--You've never paid for any of Israel's wars, so relax. Israel gets loan guarantees from the US so she can borrow from banks. There haven't been any defaults and tax payers aren't affected (despite what Richard Curtiss/if­americakne­w says)"

Is there a new theme beginning here, a denial of the existence or value of the $3 billion that is granted to Israel every year by the US? (Let's leave aside the issue of whether the additional loan guarantees have value or whether they should be made to support recent Israeli wars.)

The $3 billion yearly grant of military aid to Israel, representing about 20 percent of its current budget, is in addition to occasional grants for specific systems like Iron Dome. These funds come directly out of US federal tax revenues and some of it is paid back to US military suppliers, making it a transfer from tax-payers to corporate owners.

Is the hasbara crew about to begin denying this?

Yep, but that doesn't quite rank up there with the U.S. paying $billions to upgrade historic mosques overseas. Nothing questionable there. Odd that never comes up anymore. BTW, if nothing else, Israel exports to us a great deal of our current technology yearly, including improvements on the equipment we send them. Sure would like some muslim countries to do something like that. Wouldn't you? We give $billions to many muslim countries every year. The main difference here is that Israel doesn't fire it back at us.

In Brooklyn. the Hasids in Boro Park have ransacked the 61st Precinct Police Station on several occasions after one of their number was a crime victim (they do not riot if a gentile is mugged or murdered) or if the police arrest a Hasid for any reason. They do not feel that they are subject to secular laws, although they bloc vote for special treatment. They know the cops will stand by and watch their vandalism because the Ortodox community is "untouchable".
