Late Sunday night, 69-year-old Jorge Astacio shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself, according to Miami-Dade police. The apparent murder-suicide took place in Kendall at the Astacio's home in the 9400 block of Southwest 155th Avenue.
At the time of the shootings, police confirm that the couple's daughter, her boyfriend, and their young daughter were also in the home.
According to police spokesman Det. Alvaro Zabaleta, the daughter was present when her father killed her 59-year-old mother, Sonia, and then shot himself.
Zabaleta confirms that the Astacio's two other daughters were killed in a car accident on I-75 in November 2009. According to the Sun Sentinel, their car drifted into a median in Weston, causing the vehicle to roll over and catch fire.
Ana Galarza, a friend of Sonia's, told WSVN7 that the couple, who had been married 20 years, were having marital trouble. "He was very abusive physically and verbally to her. It would get so bad she would have to leave the house."
But Zabaleta told NBC Miami, "There's nothing at this point that shows any history of domestic violence."
