The first time is always the hardest, and it was difficult for both Daniel and his supporting community on "Caged" (Mon., 10 p.m. EST on MTV). He was undefeated going into the bout featured in the episode, and something of a "golden boy" for his hometown. With family and friends there to support him, though, Daniel found himself outclassed and outmatched.
Cage fighting can be a brutal sport, and his supporters could see the writing on the wall when his arms abruptly fell to his sides. Either exhausted or just rattled, his head was no longer fully in the game. The sport is as much mental as it was physical, and by this point Daniel was already mentally on the ropes.
His physical drop wasn't too far behind. "Superman has fallen," one of his supporters said afterward. The rest looked on in stunned silence. He got hit so hard he was advised to avoid blows to the head for at least 60 days. But from defeat and adversity can come greatness, so this could be just the motivation Daniel needs to come back stronger and tougher than ever.
