Police in the central Michigan town of Howell have identified Chris Martin Allen, 53, as the man found dead earlier today with an arrow in his chest, according to a police department press release.
Martin's body was found around 9:30 a.m. this morning in a parking lot outside the apartment complex of family members he had traveled to visit from Wellston, Michigan, a town 4 hours north of Howell.
According to the release, police went to the scene after receiving reports of a slip-and-fall accident. But when they arrived, they found Martin lying in the corner of the parking lot with an arrow protruding from the left side of his chest, just inches away from a crossbow.
"We are still in the early stages of the investigation," Police Chief George G. Basar said in the press release. "Given the unusual nature of the death this mater is being treated as a homicide at this time while the investigation continues."
Medical examiners at the Livingston County Medical Examiner's office plan to conduct an autopsy on the body tomorrow.
