Giuliana Rancic: 'I Don't Give Two Sh**s About My Breasts'

Giuliana Rancic waged a public battle with breast cancer and returned to work, to the surprise of many, just two weeks after her successful double mastectomy surgery. She's also made a name for herself speaking to many an A-list celebrity during awards shows. Now with the Golden Globes coming up, Rancic is refreshingly candid about any anxiety she might face on the red carpet.

"I don't give two sh**s about my breasts. I didn't care that at the Golden Globes, I wouldn't be able to show cleavage, " Rancic, 36, told People at a Television Critics Association press tour.

"A lot of people were shocked. They said, 'Are you sure you want to do this? Think about the life you lead and the fabulous dresses and that's part of your job. It could put your job in jeopardy.' And I thought, if I ever have a job that is defined by my breasts and some gorgeous gown then I'm in the wrong business," Rancic said.

So how did the E! News host -- who admitted that post-surgery recovery was "hell" -- do all of it? Besides the support from husband Bill, Rancic says she sought out faith and prayer during tough times; the couple now attend church every Sunday.

In October, Rancic went on the "Today Show" to announce she had been diagnosed with breast cancer during one of her fertility treatments, which had been well-documented on the Style Network show "Giuliana & Bill." In November, she returned to say she was undergoing the procedure which required the removal of both of her breasts for the less than one percent chance of the cancer returning to her body.

She did have reconstructive surgery. Sooooo she does give maybe what, half a sh$t? As for no lifting, she sits or stands, and talks. I'm happy for her and wish her all the best, I do hope she keeps a check on the cancer though, it's insidious.

Why pick apart what she says? Her point was made very well.

Reconstructive surgery is standard procedure after a double mastecomy. Studies have shown that women who do reconstructive surgery right after recover more quickly. Like it or not, part of being a woman is having breasts and many survivors have to deal with not only the scariness of cancer but the loss of their (percieved) feminity in the removal of their breasts. Those that have reconstruction struggle less with the depression at the loss of their breasts and therefore recover from the mastecomy much sooner as well as regain the strength to fight the cancer. So yes, my guess is, she gives "half a sh$t" about surviving cancer.

You only proved the posters point. Women (cancer or no cancer) give a s about their breasts. Especially women that wear long fur and blinged out diamonds on New Years Eve.

Excellent couple.

Good for her. Women's breasts are so objectified anyway. This choice will probably save her life, whereas radiation and chemotherapy lead to additional cancers, destroyed immune system, heart and other serious damage -- which doctors rarely warn you about.

Why should this be considered outrageous instead of women mutilating themselves with toxic implants?

So well said Bev Jo.

Surgery alone only saves lives if the cancer has not traveled outside the breast at the time of the mastectomy or lumpectomy. Systemic treatments such as chemo or anti-hormonals (Tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors) are necessary if the cancer has spread beyond the breast. Chemo is routine for invasive breast cancers larger than 1-cm and for women with positive lymph nodes. I don't know her staging details, but her treatment choices would be made on cancer stage and grade. Based on surgery only treatment, she was either stage 0 non-invasive or a stage 1 (no positive nodes) with a tumor size under 1-cm and a low grade.

Unfortunately systemic treatments can cause serious additional issue including heart failure and other cancers, but it's the best we've currently got. It's also why we need better than what we have.
