Rihanna has an alter-ego, and her name is Raikes.
The "Take Care" singer, who sent Northern Ireland into a frenzy during her topless "We Found Love" video shoot, has taken on a new challenge. And this time she'll be fully clothed. Rihanna will play Raikes alongside co-stars Liam Neeson and Taylor Kitsch in "Battleship," Peter Berg's big-screen adaptation of the classic board game.
According to Rihanna, stepping into the role took a lot of manning up. "[Raikes] is fearless," she says. "She's one of the boys.... she's not afraid of anything and she loves weapons."
But to become the fearless, weapon-loving Raikes, Rihanna had to do some major prep work.
"We worked with real military people, you know, people in the Navy, people who have fought in Iraq before," she told UGO.com. "They pretty much came and drilled me. This one man, Donald, he pretty much drilled me, yelled at me, cursed me, 'Ow!' Made me do pushups."
"Battleship" hits theaters on May 18.
