Teen Sues Family For Trying To Force Abortion (VIDEO)

Teen Sues Family Over Forced Abortion

A 14-year-old teen from Corpus Christi, Texas, is suing her family in order to stop them from forcing her to have an abortion, according to ABC News.

Last month, one district judge granted a temporary restraining order after, according to documents, the teen was physically assaulted by a family member, according to KIII News. The situation then got the attention of a Texas-based pro life group, which provides legal assistance for cases like this.

"It's not the first case in Texas and these cases are very very under reported," Texas Center for Defense of Life (TCDL) attorney Stephen Casey told the station. "Girls go through these situations they don't feel like they have a representative or an advocate and that's what TCDL does, is we let them know they're not alone. And they have a constitutional right to carry their child and protect their child."

ABC News reports court documents they obtained allege the girl's cousins and grandmother, Carmen Pantoja, set up an abortion appointment at the Coastal Birth Control Center against the teen's will, accusations Pantoja refutes.

"I advised her to have it. That's not the same as forcing her," Pantoja told ABC News, "If I had forced her, I would have paid for it and I didn't pay for nothing. Nobody forced her do anything."

According to a report by the Corpus Christie Caller-Times, the teen is accusing her family of keeping her from going to school.

The paper also reported that one of her cousins described the young girl as "mentally unstable" and not capable of making the decision.

At that point, the judge will determine whether or not to extend it for the duration of the girl's pregnancy.
