Sorry to see that there are some Suze haters here...as a person who was inspired to get out of credit card debt and do everything within my control to stay out of debt, all I can say is that Suze Orman is an inspiration. After I watch one of her shows, I don't have an urge to entertain myself by shopping for things I don't need: I prefer to keep myself out of trouble and on the road to financial freedom...
...and for anyone who thinks this is somehow a smug attitude, I can only point to the support that Suze (and I for that matter) give to the OWS movement...
Unnecessary consumer debt = slavery to the 1%!
(Debt as a result of hard economic times = reason to support OWS...)

It is important to have and use a credit card..."and paid it off every month"...why? If you want to rent or buy a house or apartment, buy a car, apply for a loan, apply for a land line phone, including applying for a job ( they check your credit report)...You need a good credit score. Only the use of a credit card Not a debit card will build credit. Just have in mind if you use your credit card, be sure that will be paid off every month...that way you built credit and keep yourself out of debt.

Such wisdom from Suze. I still like my plan better - I have zero holiday debt because I'm not into this material craze - hence, I continue to pi** in the same pot as I did before.

I attended a free financial couseling advise seminar in Chicago several years ago. We were told to always double, at least, the minimum payment due, and always pay off the highest interest card card first, and do not make any more purchases on your credit cards, use a debit card only. I cut up all but two general all purpose cards. Do not use a store's own credit card. I am almost debt free following this lady financial adviser, Terry Savage, advise. I purchased several of her financial books. I sleep much better at night now. I use my debit card only to buy the essentials. I am very careful what I buy, shopping for comparison prices. I try now to be an educated consumer. It took effort, but it works.

and in the process you made her wealthier and Terry the Nose Savage, has no financial participation in anything she advises on. So what is your point other than you gave them money for common sense things you should know to begin with.

Um, the point I got from Rosemary Hirsch's post was that it is liberating to free oneself from consumer debt, and that she is grateful to the adviser who enlightened her to this epiphany. Not sure why you are snarking on that...

Remember Terry Savage... Is she still around? My banker gave me similar advice ... pay off high interest cards first; pay minimum due immediately and then additional payments during the month. Instead of using a debit, use a credit card for purchases like groceries, gas, etc., and pay entire bill every month... The latter actually improves your credit rating.

Why do you want a high credit score? It will only help you go further into debt. Perhaps living without debt and building wealth would be a better goal?

If Marlo has another face lift, she'll have one heck of a dimple with a goatee.

Suzy Orman, contrary to what she say's was brought up in a wealthy family. She claims to have been a waitress ( as if there is something low grade about being a waitress) She simply had a part time job when she was in college. She is a liar and a 24 carat phoney. She sells books and that is all. Her advise is contrary to her own behavior. (Losing hundreds of thousands of dollars during the Dot Com phenom) is hardly some one that should be giving out advise to anyone. I saw a show where she even said that she lost money on some Dot Com stock and this was long after the fall. of the Dot Com fever. Put a face on TV and everyone will follow regardless of what the facts are. J. Copeland Boca Raton FL.
