Northern Gateway Pipeline Review Process Marred By Controversy

Posted: 01/10/12 10:53 PM ET

KITIMAAT VILLAGE, British Columbia (AP) — The chief of an aboriginal community that stands to be most affected by a proposed pipeline to Canada's Pacific coast is questioning whether Canada's Conservative government already plans to approve the pipeline just as the review gets under way.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper has ratcheted up support for Enbridge's proposed Northern Gateway pipeline, which would allow Canadian oil to be shipped to Asia.

An environmental review of the project began Tuesday. Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver released a letter on the eve of the review attacking opponents, saying "environmental and other radical groups" are trying to block it no matter the benefit to Canada.

Haisla First Nation Chief Ellis Ross says the government is discrediting the review process.

Enbridge reports leak from U.S. pipeline as Northern Gateway hearings begin

KITAMAAT VILLAGE, B.C.— Globe and Mail Update
Published Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012

Canadian pipeline builder Enbridge reported a leak from one of its pipelines on the day public hearings began into the company’s planned Northern Gateway pipeline.

U.S. pipeline regulators told Enbridge about the possible leak. A subsequent helicopter over-flight discovered a metre-wide patch of bubbles over the company’s Stingray pipeline, which can carry 560-million cubic feet a day of natural gas from offshore wells in the Gulf of Mexico. The bubbles were found about 100 kilometres from the Louisiana coast.

Shut it down! Shift to electric vehicles, solar and wind. Climate change is starting to get really bad. Feedbacks are kicking in. The weather is getting worse. We really need to get serious about transitioning rapidly.

We can and will but corporate media always sells us out!

When this is mandated by our leadership, hopefully by Obama, it will happen, and not until then.

Saw the three videos, who knew our greed and hunger for oil could spread. I guess it's ignorant to think it could not.
