Broken heart syndrome doesn’t just exist in fairy tales. According to a new study published the Journal of the American Heart Association, heart attack risk is much higher for people in the weeks following the passing of a loved one.

Medical News Today reports that bereavement negatively affects heart health to such an extent, that the day a loved one dies, the risk of a heart attack is 21 times higher.

This is most certainly true. My grandmother died less than 4 months...massive heart attack...after my grandfather died Christmas day in his sleep. She loved him dearly, and found her way home to be with him in the end.

I believe it. The day my mother died, I had extremely high blood pressure, yet all my life it has been normal. We are creatures of emotion. When you lose a great love, it is very poignant and the loss is felt deeply. I lost my favorite sister when I was 8, and I still feel the loss 40 years later and still have her picture on my dresser. Love doesn't die..not true, sincere love.
