Calvin Klein, Nick Gruber Split? Sources Say It's Just A 'Break' (PHOTOS)

We've grown fond of Calvin Klein and Nick Gruber, who together make up one of fashion's most unconventional pairings. The famous American designer, who will turn 70 this year, began dating Nick, a male model, in 2010 when Nick was just 20 years old.

Despite the eyebrow-raising age difference, the couple were going strong, making joint red carpet appearances and even celebrating Nick's 21st birthday in style.

Reports of a breakup in July were likely false alarms, as the pair has been seen out and about (even hitting up a Halloween party dressed up together) since then.

But today the New York Daily News reports that Klein and Gruber may be calling things off, as this past weekend Klein partied without Gruber. A source told the Daily News that they are "on a break," adding, "They could get back together, but who knows?"

Check the appearance of Mr. Gruber in October 2010 vs October 2011. Methinks a bit of weight gain occurred that was most abhorrent to Mr. Klein so things started to fizzle out. The content of the article indicates Mr. Klein was first seen out and about without the Gruber-child. And we know the gaunt look reigns supreme in the CK world. Gruber got a little too pudged out and real for Calvin. Life is a fantasy...

This young man must have really missed his grandfather. To be with someone 50 years older is so ridiculous for either sex. Calvin, it's time to call it a day, and meet a man your own age.

This is one dude who is deathly afraid of getting old. He is trying so hard to look, act, seem, be, young you only feel sorry for him. The thing is he fails miserably on all fronts. I can see dating a person twice my age. But someone four times my age? What could they possibly talk about beyond the weather and the color black?

Apparently many people are not aware that there is sex appeal that comes with just about every age. There are people who find certain older people interesting and attractive, including sexually attractive. That may be a smaller segment, but that segment exists all the same.

The challenge for the older person is sorting out those interested for what they can get from those interested in the older person as a person and hot catch.

Personally, I continue to be shocked from time to time with the attentions I receive from a much younger person from time to time. Go figure. It does happen. I am sure in a few decades, I will be even more flattered at the experience when I am 70. Recently, I just took another step in the aging process, when an admiring female referenced me as Poppa in a group. She made it clear she found Poppa quite attractive. (You don't know the difference between Daddy and Poppa; one has to be ready for the names one hears one called out in public. It can be jarring.)

But don't expect me to look like I raided my great grandson's closet. Poppa don't play that.

It's sad but so true, in the gay world, youth is idolized to the point of absurdity. Here is a well respected man who is 70, standing next to his young, good looking partner, who's 21. The sad thing is, one of these men doesn't see himself as he really is. Mr. Klein is wearing cloths that a 35 year old man would feel uncomfortable wearing, and Klein is 70. At some point one has to acknowledge the fact that one is no longer young and one has to pass the baton to the younger generation. We all go through this, as hard as it is to admit, but thankfully most of us realize it and continue with or lives. Yes, is hard becoming "invisible" to younger men, but that's all a part of growing older. Unfortunately some gay men refuse to give up that very powerful spotlight, even though that bulb burnt out a long time ago.

I don't see the difference...both are equally sad reflections of insecurity on the part of the older partner and often star struck euphoria on the part of the younger partner...then reality hits.
