Diet Coke Launches New 'Love It Light' Campaign, Complete With Fashionable Soda Cans (PHOTO)

Perk up, Diet Coke-swilling fashionistas: that silver soda can you constantly clutch just got a lot more stylish.

The calorie-free soda brand launched a brand new design this week in the UK and Europe in conjunction with the return of its "Love It Light" campaign, starring those fashionable Diet Coke puppets, reports Financial.

PopSop has a sneak peek of the new cans, which feature floral, zebra and houndstooth prints in female face profiles. In the new TV spot, three fashionable puppets fight over who gets the last can of Diet Coke, based on who had the worst day. (Puppets must have a harder life than we'd suspect.)

Facebook users can also sign up for Diet Coke's new fashion and beauty Facebook app.

And the cans translate into a real glamour pay-off: customers in the UK will receive a five-pound coupon good toward a 20-pound purchase for Benefit cosmetics.

Diet Coke has run its female-targeted "Love It Light" campaign in the UK since 2010, which we think is interesting to ponder vis-a-vis the controversial ads for Dr. Pepper Ten, the recent diet drink aimed at a "manlier" audience here in the U.S.

Check out the new cans below (do any of our UK readers want to send us some? Pleeease?), and watch the new Diet Coke puppet commercial over at Marketing Week.

First there was the brou-ha-ha over the regular Coke cans with polar bears. People mistook them for Diet Coke.

Now Diet Coke wants to change the appearance of their cans? Are they trying to hide the fact that it still tastes like cr*p?

There was an article recently disclosing the serious health hazard from the artificial sweetener used in diet soft drinks. Just thought you should know.

Someone gave me a can of Diet Coke yesterday to help me stay awake during a late night drive. One sip was enough to see that it tastes as vile as always. Put lipstick on a pig, and it is still a pig.

I like the zebra print can. I also need to calm down with drinking diet soda.

Not sure that a new, fashionable can will change how I feel about Diet Coke. I already drink too much of it but am doing a decent job of holding to my New Years resolution to cut back to 2-3 cans per day (and eventually only 1 can per day.) Here is a fun graphic of Diet Coke consumption that I thought people would like. Enjoy!

As the aspartame gets broken down in your digestive tract, a metabolic by-product called DKP appears. According to Dr. Blaylock, when your stomach processes DKP, it produces a compound very similar to N-nitrosourea, a powerful brain tumor-causing chemical. In addition, aspartame contains methanol, which the body breaks down into formic acid and formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is one of the main substances pumped into a dead body during the embalming process.

Diet Coke, like every other soda on the market, is bad for you. Stick to water.

I was a big diet soda freak and since I stop drinking it my eye sight has gotten better. They say the aspartame is very bad for you and I agree.
