Miami-Dade Police narcotics officers sure were busy bees on Wednesday: they simultaneously busted 25 hydroponic marijuana labs worth $4.5 million.
(Of course, this being Miami, the labs probably just repopulated, like Gremlins fed after midnight.)
Named 'Operation Machete', presumably for the swift and sometimes exotic swoop of justice, the county-wide sting led to 25 arrests and the confiscation of 1,356 marijuana plants weighing 1,137 pounds in addition to 7 firearms, 30 grams of cocaine, 8 grams of marijuana, and $31,708 in cash and currency.
"It is important to the community to be aware of the dangers involved in these labs: diverted power lines, use of multiple chemicals and poor ventilation just to name a few," said Miami-Dade police spokesperson Det. Alvaro Zabaleta. Lung damage, of course, was left off the list.
