7 Train To Be Closed For 11 Consecutive Weekends For MTA Repairs

SUBWAY REPAIRMAGEDDON

The 7 train, that vital artery connecting Times Square and midtown to Queensboro plaza and Queens, will be shut down for 11 consecutive weekends, The New York Post reports.

From Jan. 21 through April 2, the MTA will suspend service of the line between Queensboro Plaza and Times Square to install a new signal system. The Court Square station will also be closed for several days during the same time period.

NYC Transit President Thomas Prendergast said he's sympathetic to complaints that the closures will hurt business in certain neighborhoods but added, "This is work that must be done in order to improve the performance of this line."

It's high season for MTA repairs it seems. From 10PM to 5AM every night this week the 4,5, and 6 trains were closed as the MTA attempts, in a series of fell swoops, to "fastrack" repairs to subway lines across the city.

More scheduled closures:

The Seventh Avenue 1, 2, and 3 trains will not run between 34th street and Atlantic Avenue, in Brooklyn, from February 13 through February 17.

The Sixth Avenue B, D, F and M trains will not run from 69th street to West 4th street between February 20 through February 24.

The Eighth Avenue A, C and E trains will not run from 59th Street to Jay street, in Brooklyn, from March 12 to March 16.
