Carla Bruni's Post-Baby Style: Sweaters, Pants & Flats! (PHOTOS)

Carla Bruni's new fashion trend: schlumpy.

Now don't take that the wrong way -- we still consider France's first lady to be quite chic and pulled-together. But since giving birth to her daughter Giulia this past October, Bruni's style has transformed, as she replaces her slim-cut Dior sheathes and kitten heels with loose sweaters and flats.

We first noticed the shift when we saw her in stretchy yoga pants and a hoodie, and again on Christmas when she made her first official post-baby appearance in dark skinny pants, a fringed, camel-colored poncho sweater and boots.

Yesterday she solidified the change in a similar outfit: an oversized, cowl neck sweater in a neutral camel color, layered over a black long-sleeve tee, paired with flat boots and slim dark trousers.

For Carla, whom we'd grown accustomed to seeing in form-fitting formalwear, it's a big change. But we love the relaxed, carefree post-baby look. And she, for one, has never looked happier.

She looks great. She just had a baby and unlike a 20 year old it takes awhile to get back in shape. She looks healthy, happy and comfortable.

Dear HuffPost I most certainly did not comment my own comment. What I did was add a new hasher comment about your article on poor Carla Bruni who did not deserve the kind of crap you published about her. Sarcasm and mockery, that's how it sounded-- while the woman is probably having a real hard time to get back in shape. Even her face is changed! And you wonder why her clothes are "SCHLUMPY"!!!!

She looks great. She's just had a baby, likely has a way to go to regain her figure, she's probably pretty tired, and anyone who's had a baby can attest that you have some pretty 'specific' wardrobe requirements during that first year - and layers are necessary. Leaky boobs really can ruin a nice blouse!

She looks happy. Good on her. Can't believe this is a debatable subject.

She looks like she has wrinkles. Most women who are 44+ get lifts and peels and fillers so they're skin is smooth like a teenager. Hers isn't.

so, the woman just had a baby. i am baffled by the harsh comments from some posters that she looks "bad." i wonder if these same posters would tell their wives/sisters/friends that they looked like crap a couple of months later.

give her a break. i'm sure that if she didn't have to be in the public eye going through losing baby weight and feeling like crap, she would appreciate it. since she is the first lady, she doesn't have the option. cut her some slack. she's in her 40's and some things just don't bounce back like they used to back in the day.

i think she looks appropriate for someone who just had a baby.

So true. All this pettiness about bashing her is ridiculous. Having a baby at 40 is a big strain on the body. She look very pretty considering that she just had a baby. As a once fashion model, I'm sure she is not thrilled herself about not having her once lovely figure. Give her some time.

I admire Carla Bruni but I have to say she looks odd. The lack of form fitting clothing is understandable, and she has always worn flats, but there is something strange about the way her face looks and it is not just a lack of makeup.
