Dogs At Weddings

First Posted: 01/13/12 03:08 PM ET Updated: 01/13/12 03:20 PM ET

Here at HuffPost Weddings, we think there's only one thing cuter than a ringleted flower girl or tuxedoed ring bearer sashaying down the aisle -- a couple's furry friend doing the honors instead.

So we decided to put the question to the Twitterverse to see if you agree, asking you to share photos and stories of the pets who enlivened your nuptials. Click through the slideshow below to see some of your favorite furry wedding day helpers (and ours!) then share your stories in the comments!

Funny, I had a client call me the other day to tell me her dog ate her wedding ring! I guess the dog didn't take the "speak now or forever hold your peace" thing seriously. http://www.fetchmasters.com

Great pictures, thanks for sharing. It is always great to see people incorporate their pets into special days of their lives such as their weddings.

My wonderful dog Romeo walked me down the aisle when I got married in March, and walked out on the dance floor when my husband and I were having our first dance to share the moment with us. We just lost him to cancer on Thursday so this request for stories is particularly timely. He was an amazing dog. We have wonderful photos if a slides show is put together!

Dogs make good wedding attendants because they can't talk and tell you how miserable they are.

Our wedding planner said when you try to plan pets in to a ceremony it doesn't always go well. My hubby and I got married at my parents place and just let my Mom's dogs run freely in the yard. As my Dad walked me down the aisle, Bigfoot the Golden Retriever got right in front of me and guided me down the aisle. During the ceremony, he laid next to me and Hannah the mini Dachshund laid right next to my husband. It was too cute. Then when we posed for pictures they each took turns lying in front of us as the photographer took the pictures. Several guests thought we had planned it, but we didn't plan a thing. Those dogs were being perfect on their own. I wasn't worried about them stealing the limelight from me or anything, but I certainly was surprised. Those dogs were always a big part of the family. My mother even referred to them as my brother and sister...lol. It was a great time for Bigfoot and a sad time because he had to get put to sleep a few weeks later. I'm glad I could have him in my wedding photos.

I love dogs;I have three adorable pets, but I do think there is a place and time for these beloved animals, and I donot think these wonderful pets belong in a wedding party. Maybe the pets could just socialize after the wedding at the reception. Some guests have allergies to pets;some guests are scared of our wonderful four-legged friends. I think pets can be dressed as adorable as the bride, but I donot like the idea of an animal stealing the bridal show. I am just old fashioned that way.

I certainly hope this article is not referring to some brides.

I went to a wedding once where the bride and groom had a double ceremony. They each had a dog and they had them get married as well. I love dogs, but this was creepy. Plus, both dogs were males so it was a Gay Dog Marriage, which, I believe, is against the law in this state~!

This would be a normal liberal occasion.

Well, I was making a joke of course. Actually my friends are quit the evangelical conservatives. My girlfriend had to dress her neutered male dog in a stupid little bridal veil, so it was more like a Crossdresser Gay Wedding, or a "I fooled you, buddy. You should have sniffed my butt better" wedding.

Well Monica, I have a cat named Miss Dolly. But he's a boy. He was concieved the week my mother died and since her nickname when she was growing up was Miss Dolly, I named the kitten after her. But his little nether regions were so small, I couldn't tell his gender. I tell him all the time that he is named after someone very special and very strong so he should be proud of his name.

Heidi, that is such a sweet story about your mother :) And I'm sure Miss Dolly the Cat is quite well-adjusted and honored for his namesake. In the cat world, it's more about mousing than gender, isn't it? :) As for Kim Kardashian, I know she's not pedigreed, but I"m still confused about what kind of mutt she is :)

Dogs are great and if you have one in your family, you already know how big a part of your family they really are. And weddings are a great place ti include them if they're well trained and properly socialized. They are as loyal a friend as a friend can be and you can bet they'd be best man if they could talk. Hmmmm but how would he raise his glass?

This is a great idea if a dog is trained enough to handle it. I would love to witness such a wedding.

The only dog at my first wedding was my ex-wife! Only kidding. In fact, my ex-wife was and still is a very attractive woman. Our marriage is just another of the millions of examples that beauty is only skin deep. As much as my current wife and I love all the dogs that we've had throughout our 25 plus year relationship, we wouldn't want to have them in our wedding for one reason and one reason only, everybody would be focused on THEM and not us! Actually, both me and my wife would be focused on them also.

That's just insulting to the dogs of the world. Imagine! Being compared to Kim Kardashian. ugh.
