'Game Of Thrones' Season 2, 'Veep,' 'Girls' Get April HBO Premiere Dates

Winter is coming ... this April. HBO has announced Season 2 of "Game of Thrones" will kick off on Sun., April 1 at 9 p.m. EST. Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes.

Lena Dunham's "Girls" will kick off its 10-episode Seas 1 on Sun., April 15 at 10:30 p.m. Dunham wrote and directed and stars in the new series described as a comedic look at the humiliations and triumphs of a group of young women in their early 20s. Judd Apatow is an executive producer on the series. Jemima Kirke ("Tiny Furniture"), Allison Williams ("American Dreams"), Adam Driver ("You Don't Know Jack") and Zosia Mamet ("Mad Men") round out the cast.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus returns to TV in "Veep" starting Sun., April 22 at 10 p.m. In the new comedy, the "Seinfeld" veteran plays former Senator Selina Meyer, the new vice president of the United States and quickly learns the job isn't exactly what she was expecting. Sufe Bradshaw ("Overnight"), Anna Chlumsky ("My Girl"), Tony Hale ("Arrested Development"), Reid Scott ("My Boys"), Tim Simons ("Days Together") and Matt Walsh ("Outsourced") also star.

HBO's "Game Change" TV movie about the 2008 presidential election directed by Jay Roach and written by Danny Strong, will debut Sat., March 10 at 9 p.m. EST. Julianne Moore stars as Sarah Palin opposite Ed Harris as John McCain.

I've read the series (which isn't complete yet but it's still far ahead of the video). I predict that by the end of this season it's going to get tedious in terms of plot. Sort of becomes a soap opera where the author, instead of seeing through the plot line, invents others to fill space. I actually hope the director WILL cut out huge parts of the book and tighten it all up.

I'm talking about the books Martin wrote. HBO has only done book1 and a little of book2. So far the video has been pretty true to the book and next season should be good. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I'll watch the whole thing and read the last two books when they come out. I don't want to start typing out spoilers here, but, well, let me put it this way. He spends a lot of time on new characters and regions complete with their own problems and drama. This isn't necessarily bad, but the payoff in story and plot isn't very gratifying. By the 3rd or 4th book you get the feeling that you are just reading certain parts out of obligation in hopes he'll go back and touch on the characters you like.

There is NO plot.......vampires, dragons, dwarfs, everything including the kitchen sink....no gays tho.......what's this about, anyway?

that said I did enjoy the series more than the book.....and I've read all of them.......yikes! mind numbing.

I don't think that's fair. There's a plot and he's made it more about human drama and tension rather that relying on the fantasy background to provide the interest and story for people. Also, he's pretty bold with his main characters, letting them die from time to time. That's a breath of realism.

You seem confused about the basics. The dwarf is actually just a "little person" born of human parents no different than dwarfs in modern times, so it's not a fantasy different race sort of dwarf. Also, no vampires, no elves, and HBO created a gay relationship that wasn't in the book as seen in the first season. Did you miss it?

The best part of the series? The one book per season pace means Martin will have to pull his thumb out and finish the series or HBO will run out of material.

The second best part? Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen.
