Mexico Child Trafficking Case Leaves 4 Women Arrested

Mexico Child Trafficking Case

01/14/12 03:17 PM ET   AP

MEXICO CITY — Investigators say four women are being held in the western Mexican city of Guadalajara in connection with an apparent child-trafficking ring that aimed to supply babies to childless Irish couples.

The Jalisco state prosecutor's office says a 21-year-old woman has been arrested after a relative reported that she was "renting out" one of her children.

The woman said she had been paid to give the child to a group of three women who needed baby pictures for legitimate advertising purposes.

Investigators found the other three women were taking the child and several others to a hotel where Irish couples believed they were going to adopt them.

Officials are investigating whether the Irish couples and Mexican mothers were tricked.

In the US the waiting time to adopt a child is way to long. People just get their children from other countries where adoption is much faster. Adoption laws should be renewed so US familys could adpot faster. So many children looking for a nice home and family.
I'm not a bit surprised at what those mexican women were trying to do . That place is mostly a dirty country w/ lots of crime.

there are many reasons people adopt over-seas, having nothing to do with wait times in the US. Further, once a couple decides to adopt, barring special circumstances it takes 18 months to 2 years, and in some cases much less.

The Federal Government and Dept of Education disagrees with you.

"Contrary to a common assumption, human trafficking is not just a problem in other countries. Cases of human trafficking have been reported in all 50 states, Washington D.C., and some U.S. territories. Victims of human trafficking can be children or adults, U.S. citizens or foreign nationals, male or female.

According to U.S. government estimates, thousands of men, women, and children are trafficked to the United States for the purposes of sexual and labor exploitation. An unknown number of U.S. citizens and legal residents are trafficked within the country primarily for sexual servitude and, to a lesser extent, forced labor.  "

According to the report you cited, in 2008 there were 40 trafficking convictions in the US. Thirteen for sex, 27 for labor.
Does that sound like an epidemic to you?

Really? You're citing a website from the Dept of Ed? This is a trumped up issue that is terrible but nowhere near as widespread in the US as you amke it out to be.
Eventually, someone will investigate these claims of THOUSANDS trafficked, and it will go away. Just like the old claims of 50,000 young women dying of anorexia every year in the US. Remember that?

There is all kinds of human trafficking coming from Mexico. Border Patrol picks up women and children all the time who are brought here for the sex trade. People who live in border states are aware of this.

If any of you are really interested in what gets smuggled into the country, watch a few episodes of Border Wars. It comes on the NATGEO channel. It's not just people coming for a better life or drugs.

Last year they rescued 2 8yr old twins being brought into the country by an "Uncle" that they didn't know. They were turned over to the Mexican Consulate who returned them to their families in Mexico. 8 yr olds are not old enough to work so it is much much understood what they were being brought here for.

My first 10 yrs in Tx were on the border and I know at least 3 families who adopted babies from Mexico. There are not a lot of restrictions in Mexico regarding this.

No. They really can't. Do you know anything about the adoption process and situation world-wide? It's worth taking the time to research. Check it out and get back to me.

This article says nothing about the 21yo selling her baby but only that she was selling a photo of her baby for advertisement..That Country is so poor that I can understand the 21yo selling a PICTURE of her child for ADVERTISEMENT..Now the other 3 woman that were running the scheme on these Irish people should be arrested and the Irish woman should also be arrested also..As many children that are in Orphanages in Ireland and they are trying to buy children from another country,,ILLEGALLY..Makes me think whats wrong with these Irish people that they cant or dont want to adopt from their own country...I'd definitely investigates their reasons why...

Stats say the average wait time for adoption in western countries is 5 to 6 years and then most parents want babies, not young or teen kids.

In When She Was Bad, Patricia Pearson points out that:

"Women commit the majority of child homicides in the United States, a greater share of physical child abuse, an equal rate of sibling violence and assaults on the elderly, about a half of child sexual abuse, an overwhelming share of the killings of newborns, and a equal preponderance of spousal assaults...The sole explanation offered by criminologists for violence committed by a woman is that it is involuntary, the rare result of provocation or mental illness, as if half the population of the globe consisted of saintly stoics who never succumbed to fury, frustration, or greed. Though the evidence may contradict the statement, the consensus runs deep. Women from all walks of life, at all levels of power — corporate, political, of familial, women in combat and on police forces — have no part in violence.

It is one of the most abiding myths of our time."
12:13 PM on 01/15/2012
Pearson is correct, women do in fact commit the highest number of child abuse cases. Funny how women do not like it when men batter them- but they do the same to tiny children.
03:01 PM on 01/15/2012
?? 61% of all child abuse is at the hands of the mother. NOT 61% of all women abuse their kids. So, actually the majority of women are not child abusers. No, most women do not like it when men batter them and most of those women do not abuse their kids. ONe has nothing to do with the other.

Why do people even have children when they have no problems doing stuff like this, either dont get pregnant or get an abortion, save the child from having a lousy life.

Have you ever seen the video about a woman who needed to get an abortion? At eight months the baby she planned on having died inside of her and she needed to either carry the dead thing inside of her to term or get an abortion. Would you really force her to carry a dead thing inside of her?
