Michelle Williams: Golden Globe Winner Best Actress Comedy Or Musical 2012

Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams has won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.

The 31-year old star played Marilyn Monroe in "My Week With Marilyn," completely transforming into the screen legend to recreate both her iconic look and complicated, multi-layered and fragile personality. The film recalls the story of Monroe's ill-fated trip to England to star with Sir Laurence Olivier (played by Kenneth Branaugh, who received a Globe nomination) in "The Princess and the Showgirl," and the relationships she allegedly struck up with a young production assistant named Colin Clark (played by Eddie Redmayne).

The win is Williams's first in what was her third Globe nomination.

What is up with that headband? Those are cool in 4th grade IF you have long hair. Major fashion faux pas, Michelle.

Sorry, but I simply don't get what everyone seems to like about her. She looks like a 16 year old and seems exceedingly shy, and her acting is mediocre. What's the big deal??

Thank you! She was sitting next to the casting couch king-maker, so perhaps that explains.

"...Republican sex offender & former Regent University law school assistant dean Stephen L. McPherson, who was indicted June 7, 2008 on 13 felony sexual assault charges involving two girls, has entered a guilty plea to two counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of object sexual penetration. He is set to be sentenced May 22. There was no agreement on a potential sentence, except that prosecutors will recommend a cap of 18 years and six months.
Republican sex offender and former North Country assemblyman and current state Parole Board member, George "Chris" Ortloff, 61, was arrested on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008 on federal charges that he used the Internet to solicit sex with minors. He was arrested following a sting operation at a Colonie motel and had allegedly arranged for a date with a minor he met on the Internet. '' The New York Post reports that he had child pornography and sex paraphernalia in his possession when he was arrested. State Police reportedly searched Ortloff'''s home in Plattsburgh and a computer had been seized from his Lake Placid real estate office, officials said. Ortloff, married with two sons, retired from the Assembly in 2006 having represented the 110 th District. '' He was appointed to the part-time position on the Parole Board, a six year term which expires in 2012, a position paying him $102,000 a year.

I think Michelle is lovely. The only thing I'm confused about is the category this movie was in...I haven't seen it yet (plan to as soon as I can) but I wasn't under the impression it was a comedy or musical?

It was ridiculous to put it in that category because it was a drama. They probably didn't want to pit her against Streep. This won't happen at the Oscars, but even though I haven't seen Iron Lady, the Marilyn movie was dreadfully boring.

Oh for dog's sake she looks like a 12 year old child who was dressed by her daddy while her mommy was recovering from the camping vacation on which daddy just had to take the entire family.

I remember watching her on Dawson's Creek (yes, I watched Dawson's Creek)...she always seemed overshadowed by the rest of the cast even though she was one of the more interesting characters.

Great actress...I still need to see Blue Valentine...

she's ok. Dawson's Creek. Really? I saw My week with Marilyn. Williams got the voice down but looked nothing like her. So we all had to pretend people would go wild for this average looking girl. It would be like casting Seth Rogan to play Clark Gable.

I think that comparison is very harsh. No she doesn't look like Monroe...no one really does. I think it was more important to cast an actress who can "convey" who Marilyn Monroe was and Michelle Williams clearly did this...and she is an attractive woman. She's in her 30s, she's a mother...she's hardly a "girl".

To me it's absolutely ridiculous to pick a girl who looks like a high school kid to play a voluptuous, sexy woman. In my opinion the casting was way off the mark and all I could do was sit there and think how much of a wrong choice she was for the part. She's not terrible as an actress but she's certainly no Meryl Streep.

If the pictures for the early makeup tests for Marilyn are still posted, they look very much like Monroe's pictures; but that isn't what the director wanted. Williams did an incredible job inhabiting Monroe, not doing an impersonation.

I'm a big fan of Michelle Williams. She's lovely and oh so talented. I believe she has what it takes to be around for many years, and her work will just get better and better. Congrats on a well-deserved award!
