The 2012 Golden Globe Awards went as expected for the film nominees -- and defied all expectations when it came to TV winners.

For the big screen contenders, favorites "The Descendants" and "The Artist" took home the Best Picture awards, for Drama and Musical/Comedy, respectively. George Clooney and Jean Dujardin won the corresponding Best Actor awards. In the main actress categories, Meryl Streep and Michelle Williams both won for playing historical icons; Streep, for her turn as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady," and Williams for her role as Marilyn Monroe in "My Week With Marilyn."

On the TV side, "Homeland" won Best Drama Series, giving the freshman series a win over "Boardwalk Empire" and "Modern Family" repeated as Best Comedy. Not too unexpected, sure, but how about Best Actors: for Drama, Kelsey Grammer won for "Boss" and in Comedy, Matt LeBlanc won for "Episodes."

Meanwhile, Ricky Gervais was rather timid, getting in some fun digs at the HFPA and Kim Kardashian in his monologue, but largely avoiding the low hanging fruit: no Charlie Sheen, no Tom Cruise, hardly any divorce jokes outside of one mention in his monologue.

Here's the entire list of winners; for all the in-show gossip and fun, click over to our live blog. It's no longer live, but it's still a fun read.

I am so glad Jessica Lange won Best Supporting Actress for her role in American Horror. . She breezes through her scenes with an Southern Belle elegance and sensuality reminiscent of Elizabeth Taylor in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.

these two women do not know how to dress and that headband looks ridiculous
like to comment on charlize theron yelling at her mother for stepping on her dress, big deal it is only a dress, that woman happens to be your mom, and your dress was goofy looking anyway.

I'm surprised to see that people of color did win at the Golden Globes because HPAOL style page definitely doesn't reflect that at all...

color should have nothing to do with choices, in this case, those women were powerful

Jane Fonda had no business being on stage. Maybe Ho Chi Min City can use her. Also, this was the the Golden Globe Awards not the GOP campaign commentary. Political statements were out of place especially by actors who are want to be politicians.

In what world does "New Girl" (a not bad show) get a nomination and Community does not? In what world does Modern Family win the award and Community, not only wasn't nominated but wasn't the winner?

Additionally how was Danny Pudi not get nominated? Similarly, Johnny Galeki got nominated but Jim Parsons did not?

Agreed. Nothing against Modern Family, but it seems highly overrated. It would be nice if Community would at least get some form of recognition from these dopey award shows. It's annoying how that show and all the talented actors in it get consistently snubbed.

A great mix of winners.

Why am I always dissappointed when these actors get their award, their all dressed up looking so fine and adorned with jewels and their hair and make up so perfect.... and then all of that preperation is destroyed the moment they speak, and these muddled words and nonsense comes out, laced with profanity, obscene jokes.... and I am completely turned off and offended at these actors and actresses. I have never seen such a collection of immoral, disgusting group of selfish, ego maniacs boozing it up and rollicking in their greedy self indulgent swamp of greed and immoral behavior. I no longer spend one cent on any movie, magazine, product that lines the pockes of these abhorent people.

I despised it when any woman of color wins anything for playing a maid, hooker or drug addict....Under no circumstances would I ever play those low and demeaning roles.....

Well, I suppose it would be hard to empathize with anyone if only white women played the roles. They are not low and demeaning roles if they lift the consciousness of others.
