Octavia Spencer Golden Globes 2012 Best Supporting Actress Winner

Octavia Spencer Wins Best Supporting Actress At The Golden Globes!

Octavia Spencer has won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.

Spencer played Minny, a brave and headstrong domestic maid working in racist Mississippi at the dawn of the Civil Rights era. Fired by her employer, played by Bryce Dallas Howard in a brilliantly evil turn as Hilly Hollbrook, she struggles until getting hired by the kind-hearted Celia, played by Jessica Chastain.

Spencer knew director Tate Taylor since the mid-90s, though she still had to read for the part; she did have another advantage, though, as the Katherine Stockett, the author of the book on which the film is based, modeled the character on Spencer after they met one day in New Orleans.
