Pro-Stephen Colbert Super PAC: 'A Vote For Herman Cain Is A Vote For America'

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 01/16/2012 10:49 pm Updated: 01/17/2012 10:32 am

The Colbert Super PAC -- recently renamed The Definitely Not Coordinating With Stephen Colbert Super PAC -- has released a new ad appealing to voters in South Carolina.

Jon Stewart, who took over the Colbert Super PAC after the comedian decided to explore a presidential run, emailed Colbert supporters Monday night touting the ad, which was "released in advance of the upcoming underfunded GOP Primary." Though the ad -- titled "Not Abel" -- was released by a pro-Colbert group, it encourages South Carolina residents to vote for another Republican in the upcoming primary -- Herman Cain.

"A vote for Herman Cain is a vote for America," the ad says. "He's such a Washington outsider, he's not even running for president."

The ad comes as Colbert pushes forth with his campaign despite the fact that he technically can't run in the South Carolina primary. HuffPost's Amanda Terkel reports:

"South Carolina state law does not allow write-in ballots in presidential primaries. There is no 'blank' space on voting machines to write-in a candidate," said South Carolina GOP Executive Director Matt Moore. "Stephen Colbert has about as much a chance at being elected president in South Carolina as he does of being elected Pope. Zero. It didn't work four years ago, and it won't work now. The gag is worn out."

South Carolina GOP Chair Chad Connelly told The Huffington Post that one upside of Colbert's stunt could be that "maybe some of his audience will watch some of our candidates and learn they're better than Obama and we get some votes out of it."

Though he suspended his presidential campaign in early December 2011, Cain continues to spread his message. He plans to make an appearance at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference on January 19, where he said will make an "unconventional endorsement" in an email to supporters.

In Cain wants to redeem himself, he should endorse Colbert.

He'd have nothing to lose in doing so. He was never a serious candidate, and I doubt the others even want his endorsement. He could stick it to his opponents, get back in the spotlight, and sell more books by standing behind Colbert. He would certainly redeem himself in my eyes if he went that route.

Wonder how many Republicans still believe that Colbert is one of them. During the 2008 election there were actually a sizeable number of them that didn`t get the joke and thought he really was one of them....but then they didn`t get the Palin joke either.

A LOT! I was reading an article about Colbert on CNN.com this week, and was shocked to see that the overwhelming majority of the comments were from people who really believed that Colbert was a right-wing conservative. What part of "Comedy Central" don't they get? Talk about mind-blowingly stupid. I have to wonder how many of them have actually sent money to his Super Pac.

hmm Mark Twin is the pen name for Samuel Clemens.

The initials for Samuel Clemens is SC.

SC is the state postal code for South Carolina
SC is the initials for Stephen Colbert.

Coincidence?... yeah probably...

Brilliant. Even though this is sort of a joke, they are following the letter of the law to expose how ridiculous Citizens United and the whole SuperPac thing really is.

This reminds me of Richard Pryor in Brewster's Millions. Vote for None of the Above. How humiliating for the GOP if Cain wins S.C.? If anyone can make that happen, Colbert and Stewart can.

South Carolina GOP Chair Chad Connelly told The Huffington Post that one upside of Colbert's stunt could be that "maybe some of his audience will watch some of our candidates and learn they're better than Obama and we get some votes out of it."

What happens when South Carolina finds out that Colbert would make a better nominee than any of the Republican candidates? That's much more likely.

So many from the right really don't get what Colbert is doing. They really think he wants to be president! Although they will get plenty of good promotional help from this neither Colbert or Stewart need that help. This really is about exposing what a bad decision the Citizens United ruling was. The republicans have decided to go with just pure hatred for the man as their main tactic in defeating him in November and all the money that Romney and his gang will be spending to demonize him may work. We need campaign finance laws to be strengthened and we need to get rid of the politician from both sides that have been in Congress way to long. This will be the election we have to do something about it because if the repubs take control of the White House, the Senate and the House we will see things we never thought could happen in America.

Telling people in South Carolina to vote for Herman Cain is very funny on it's own when you think about it.
