Ron Paul Leaves 2012 Campaign Trail To Vote Against Raising Federal Debt Ceiling

BETH FOUHY   01/17/12 06:08 PM ET   AP

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Ron Paul is stepping off the presidential campaign trail to vote against raising the federal debt ceiling.

The Texas congressman will fly to Washington early Wednesday. He planned to return to South Carolina on Thursday morning, two days before the state's first-in-the-South primary.

Paul has made concern over the federal debt and government spending the central tenet of his candidacy. He says he would trim $1 trillion from the federal budget in his first year as president and has called for steep cuts to military and overseas spending.

His message has found traction in the presidential contest. He placed second in the New Hampshire primary last week.

Paul's campaign says his vote against the debt ceiling increase would signal what it called "displeasure at the spendthrift habits of the administration."

The debt ceiling simply allows for their to be money for the Country to pay for it's bills for all of the spending done by Bush and the Republicans for 8 yrs. It is always something that has been done routinely, but not after the T-Party members came to town. That was their first big mistake when they wanted to close down the government rather than raise the debt ceiling. Then the S&P down graded the  Read More...

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered...I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." - Thomas Jefferson
He warned us a long time ago about the things that are happening now. How incredible is that?

Ran across this statement from a "Property Owner" in Ron Paul's district from April 2, 2011

"I could care less about all the philosophical issues being tossed around and like to get to some real basics.
We have a condo in Galveston Texas and as part of a complex of 276 units the property sustained about 5M in damages cfor Hurricane Ike – most of which have been impossible to recoup at this point. Why? The insurers just flat out refuse to pay forcing property owners into expensive litigation, arbitration or just frustration resulting in being low balled and accepting cents on the dollar. Magnify this by thousands of claims.
When the litigation issue first surfaced I contacted Paul’s office twice and received no response. Why? This is basic “customer service” for a public official. I may not be a constituent of the Texas 14th but I am a property owner and taxpayer.
Barney Frank is my Congressman and I agree with BF about 1% of the time but if I have a question I get a response. Maybe someone in the Paul support group can explain this?
It’s the little things in politics that make a difference."

It is those things that matter when you go into Public Service that should be your priority not pushing your agenda.

The question that should be on the floor is this one:

WHY is there a debt-ceiling?

And perhaps a second:

WHY does no other country have a debt-ceiling?

And perhaps a third:

WHY do we allow private bankers to control the national money system so that the government needs to borrow - FROM these private bankers - the funds needed for providing public services.

Then, let's have a debate.

That was a fun video.

But would you have us believe that:
"The banks hath benefit of interest on all monies which it creates out of nothing."?

Or, that:
"The banks can and do create money. They, who control the credit of the nation, direct the policies of government and hold, in the hollow of their hands, the destiny of their people".?

If that were true, then it may explain why we have a national debt, and why there is a ceiling on that debt, as this has now become one of those manipulated "policies of the government".

You may be right there.
But, what to do about it???

http://kucinich.house.gov/UploadedFiles/NEED_Act_FINAL_112th.pdf

VOILA !!!

It's our money system again.
Banks no longer collect interest on all the money they create out of nothing as a debt.
The government creates the money WITHOUT a debt.
The banks must first "borrow" that money from their depositors in order to gain interest.

Life, and economics, as it should be.
Thanks.

Meanwhile, here's a little context (Obama's appointment to head the SEC) on why people are questioning the decision to speak at B of A stadium; it cuts too close to the bone.

Ron Paul stated "He says he would trim $1 trillion from the federal budget in his first year as president and has called for steep cuts to military and overseas spending." This demonstrates how little he understands the office of president, this from a life long politician. One who began his career in the 1970s. The president does not have that level of power.

The president can propose a budget, but has no power to enact it. The House creates and votes on the budget and the Senate must vote to approve that budget. The only action the president has is the power of veto.

So, I'd like Ron Paul to explain to America how he plans on trimming $1 trillion dollars without the power to legislate the budget. Especially if the House and Senate do not agree with his proposals.

Government 101. The President controls the Executive Branch right? Oh that’s right most of what he calls for is controlled out of his cabinet in the Executive Branch. The Military is under his control as well as what this country spends in foreign aid. The military is at his command and he can withdrawal troops the moment be takes office. That’s 500 billion right there. The departments that he doesn’t control true would have to be voted on. But remember when a President gets into office it is a power shift voted by the people. This is why the Legislative Branch gets a vote every 2 years. Don’t play ball and you get voted out. If he gets pushed he will get at least half of what he wants the moment he gets there. Still more then what we currently are getting.

An ad hominem response, typical of your ilk.

An ad hominem argument, also known as argumentum ad hominem (Latin, literally "argument to the man"), is 1) a logical fallacy that involves replying to an argument or assertion by addressing the person presenting the argument or assertion rather than the argument itself; 2) an argument pointing out an inconsistency between a view expressed by an individual and the remainder of his or her beliefs.

"displeasure at the spendthrift habits of the administration."

It is money already spent by Congress, you would think being a congressman for all of these years he would finally get it.

Let me guess, he is going to vote 'No'.

I just hope he is true to his word and is not running for re-election,
so when his Presidential bid fails we'll finally be done with him

Flying first class I'll bet. He should leave the campaign trail permanently as a result of his stupid performance in the last debate.

Ron Paul left South Carolina because after the last debate he realized that his Jim Crow ideology would not be enough to 'compensate' for his "left wing" anti-war agenda with the these 'particular' southern voters.

We are in the 'The Republican Campaign of Hate' (2012 Edition)

Tea party and evangelical voters are just now learning that their own Republican and evangelical leadership has played them once again. Mitt Romney is the epitome of everything, both socially and economically, they love to hate

Yet, here in the final hours before the South Carolina primary, their leaders have made it clear that Mitt now is somehow the “lesser of two evils” for them.

Yes, while these voters have the freedom to vote their "conscience" this Saturday, come this November, Mitt is all they have left. (No pun intended).

The Republican leadership has ‘played’ these voters yet again, all be it brilliantly, using their own bigotry to slam them against the wall with a not so silent campaign message that goes something like this…

“Do You Hate Barack Obama Enough To Sell Your Soul To Mitt?”
