Celebrity Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe is alive and well. The world said their goodbyes to the icon almost 50 years ago, but we still see her in theaters, on the red carpet and in our living rooms. Celebrity culture has attempted to create the next Marilyn-esque icon -- Scarlett Johansson, Angelina Jolie, Lindsay Lohan -- but the mold from which they've sprung is never quite the same. And perhaps that's the true testament to Monroe's isolated iconoclasm -- the one and only.

Fifty years ago, some liked it hot and Monroe was hot in every way -- a hotly contested, sizzling siren with a closet of burning secrets. In another fifty years, will it still be Marilyn? When the real thing continues to exist on film, how could it not be.

Michelle Williams is the latest doe-eyed bombshell to crack the code in "My Week With Marilyn," for which she took home a 2012 best actress Golden Globe. Although Williams may be leading the wiggle and wave pack, she's hardly the first to do it. From Lindsay Lohan and Blake Lively to Nicole Kidman and Rachel McAdams, these ladies may have the hair and clothes down, but when it comes to channeling the real mccoy it's all about that ephemeral Je ne sais quoi.

"I do remember one moment of being all suited up as Marilyn and walking from my dressing room onto the soundstage practicing my wiggle," Williams told GQ magazine. "There were three or four men gathered around a truck, and I remember seeing that they were watching me come and feeling that they were watching me go -- and for the very first time I glimpsed some idea of the pleasure I could take in that kind of attention; not their pleasure but my pleasure. And I thought, 'Oh, maybe Marilyn felt that when she walked down the beach.'"

Check out the lovely ladies below who've come as close as one can to the real thing:

I vote for Michelle Williams, I think she has the same pout in the lower portion of her face like Marilyn.Just beautiful ,all of them.

I vote for Drew Barrymore as Marilyn. Most of the other actresses are beautiful, but they lack the "cuteness" and charisma that Marilyn had. She had a snub nose and an eternally innocent quality that's hard to portray. Check out Drew in these photos:

None of them came anywhere close. She was a beautiful woman. She had some issues, but she was beautiful.

Are you talking about the original Marilyn before hollywood changed her hairline, hair color and other aspects of her face or the new plastic surgery Marilyn Monroe.

For my money, Theresa Russell in Nicholas Roeg's "Insignificance" was outstanding. Check it out on YouTube: "Marilyn Monroe explains Relativity to Albert Einstein".

The most accurate portrayal would be Miss Piggy.

Which ones told you they envy Marilyn, she was made to look the way she did, envy her plastic surgeon, no. Check out history it might surprise you that all women of the world have been have been considered beautiful. I never thought Marilyn Monroe was that beautiful, Liz Taylor yes, envy no. Racist

Please. You include such a consumate wanna-be as Paris Hilton, and completely forget to mention Misty Rowe? Check out the 1976 movie GOODBYE NORMA JEAN. Then be prepared to say, "Katherine Who? Scarlett Who?"

I remember the day Marilyn Monroe died, just as clearly as I remember the day Elvis died. I was 15 years old and had just stepped aboard the St. Charles street car in New Orleans with my sister during a summertime trip. I remember how shocked and surprised I was that someone so young and pretty had died - it didn't seem possible. I've been surprised and even annoyed by how many people have tried to imitate her and Elvis. The truth is that no one can portray them as they actually were - bigger than anyone's imagination - even a 15-year-old's.

Marilyn died not long aftter my mother's sudden passing. They were roughly the same age and both bleached blondes. In my young imagination, I wondered if they would see each other in Heaven. If yes, I knew my mother would be pleased. She was a Monroe fan.

My parents were Marilyn fans, too. She was one of many real "movie stars" they admired and no one cared if any of their beauty was enhanced - people enjoyed the glamour and mystery of hollywood.

Since when is "dressing up as" the same as channeling? The woman mentioned are a far cry from the actual Marilyn.

I guess I don't get to express an opinion, even though it was allpositive and freedom of speech don't mean nothing...I love Marilyn and that's all that counts. Sad but true "Metallica"
