LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say an assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks basketball team has been arrested on an outstanding warrant from Las Vegas.

Sgt. James Brown says Darrell Armstrong was arrested and booked Tuesday in a case involving non-sufficient funds. Details about the case weren't immediately available.

Armstrong's bail was set at $40,000, and someone posted it Wednesday morning.

Sheriff's officials say Armstrong was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation in Marina Del Rey on Tuesday. A deputy determined there was an outstanding warrant for the 43-year-old.

The driver and another passenger were not detained.

The Mavericks declined to comment.

very good point...as a resident of CA for over 25 years, I find this rather dubious. Then again, we do have our own brand of power-hungry cops here. A few months ago, a White, homeless man was beaten to death in White, Orange County by their officers.

oh yeah sure. Power- hungry cops.? It is routine and standard proceedure to check all people in a traffic stop, or accident, expecially at night and especially if any of the people are acting sort of like hiding something, can't get their stories right or if they see or smell drugs.

My first question was why was the passenger questioned anyway?

This is a clear case of bias...I have no doubt that if Armstrong was white, (unless he looked like Charles Manson) the trooper wouldn't have checked his ID. And 40K bail for NSF check--ridiculous!
