'Jimmy Kimmel Live': Katherine Heigl Introduces Her Daughter (VIDEO)

First Posted: 01/18/12 07:44 AM ET Updated: 01/20/12 03:24 PM ET

Talking about her three-year old daughter, proud mom Katherine Heigl told "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (Weeknights, 12 a.m. EST on ABC) that "she's very hammy, and she loves applause."

Right on cue, Heigl's husband Josh Kelley ran out from backstage and handed little Naleigh over to her mom. But the bright lights and studio audience seemed to overwhelm the child, whom the couple adopted from South Korea.

Forgetting the old adage to never work with children or animals, Heigl plowed on, and she encouraged the audience to clap, saying her daughter would respond.

However, Naleigh wasn't playing ball and was content to sit quietly and suck her thumb instead.

As Kelley yelled encouragement to his daughter, Heigl quipped, "Daddy says 'just be yourself!' Maybe not."

"Jimmy Kimmel Live" airs weeknights at 12 a.m. EST on ABC.

Do any of you know that Katherine sister Meg is Korean. Before you all post negative comments about her and her family maybe you should look at your own! People are so quick to judge other people but don't take the time to look at their own life. Be happy that she is raising a beautiful little girl.

A child who needs a home is a child who needs a home, regardless of race or skin color. My daughter was adopted from another country. Frankly, it's none of anyone's business what country her child is from- she went through the process, paid the fees, has the paperwork- that little girl is hers. Back off.

ok now we're going to hear how heigl wants her privacy for herself and her family

it seems to be alot easier to adopt from foreign countries that have children available. many times though people get ripped off from these agencies and the foreign gov t will let the the frauds get away with it. when the child is about seven years old she will realize that she is not the same race as her parents and start asking questions. that is going to cause problems because i know of two families that adopted chinese children and that happened. the boy became very angry and knew he was chinese and wanted to be recognized as chinese not white as his parents and other brother and sisters were . the girl was confused and nervous and thought the other kids meant that she was from a different part of town. she said she was from a different place but why should that matter her parents were her parents but she didn t like the attention she was getting from the other children. the kids were not trying to be mean they just thought the childrens parents would be chinese not a different race. so it s not an easy thing. i didn t know the people very well so i didn t say anything i really don t know how i would handle that but there is no getting away from the issue.

Everybody's is fussing the Katherine Heigl should adopt an American child. Yet, when Sandra Bullock did just that, then people started saying she only adopted a black child for publicity. What the he ll! I am guessing there is just no pleasing some people. You all have to be right no mater what, eh?

It's really Nice and Sweet- But disappointing, I'm sure to both herself and her Parents
2 different races ? Never works..
She is not going to be raised as a Korean is she?
I just don't think it right..
Don't we have Plenty of Kids here to Take care of?
Maybe too many were Minority-Black or Latino she didn't want?

Wish I could have Chosen my Kids, espeically when they became Teenagers!
They were all Great before then
Just like My Mother said about us Kids..
My Dad? Kept saying , we're not his...
And my Brother? I got a Fake adoption paper and Birth Certif. and gave it to him

Unfortunately.... You have to jump through hoops to adopt in America. If it easier to adopt from another country, than why not.
02:06 PM on 01/18/2012
Dennis, are you really that ignorant??? A child is a child regardless of color, race, or gender. Sounds like perhaps you're upset about your own childhood and family to see that love and compassion can come from and go to anyone. Sorry your parents didn't show you that.

If you are hollywood or entertainment its only cool to adopt from overseas. that way you can get lots of press coveage becasue you are helping the poor somewhere. Korea does not compute to me though. Its quite a prosperous country, but I wonder if its easier to adopt if you are foreigners rather than Korean. I am glad the little girl has found a good home, just wonder about the whole celebrity adoption thing. Of course if you are a liberal lesbian like Rosie O'Donnel you can send one back if you think its defective, just like shopping at WalMart!

I think (perhaps) to a certain degree there is something amongst actors that if they adopt within the country the former parents could find out who their children are with and come after them for money. If they adopt outside of the country, much less of a chance of this happening.

And wait... hold on... how did this turn political?

i'm a nurse, she is definately not downs syndrome, and so what if she was, i have seen many in my 40 years as a nurse, adopt babys they know have down's and other special needs.

out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks, ( remember that you posters who post out of prejudice, ignoramce, jealousy and envy--) what goes around comes around, you reap what you sow!

while I AM happy this Korean girl has been adopted into a good home, it does bother me somewhat as to WHY 99% of these famous people adopt from OTHER countries, when there's THOUSANDS & THOUSANDS of American babies/children RIGHT HERE in the USA that need to be adopted as well.
12:34 PM on 01/18/2012
ugh, people always say that. People adopt from where they feel led to adopt from. Leave it at that. It's their decision, not yours.

really? I was more taken back by the fact that her best friend is her nanny, not her mother.

ignorant people will always "read in to" things that aren't there, you're one of them..

Our country is in serious trouble and we must all start helping our own first. We have so many DESPERATE, LONELY AMERICAN children that need adopting, it is no longer ethical to adopt from another country. That's why people are so upset on this board. IT'S A DISGRACE to ignore the needs of your own country to help another country. That's the bottom line.
12:35 PM on 01/18/2012
Thank you!!!

Shireyn48, unless you have adopted a child recently, you need to stop talking. It is a long, arduous, difficult process. Being a celebrity and adopting adds a whole other level of issues to the adoption and, in some cases, it may be safer for both the celebrity and the child if the child is adopted internationally. Most biological families only want what is best for their child when choosing an adoptive family, but what about the unscrupulous relative who tries to harass or blackmail the celebrity for money or fame? What about random strangers who try to approach the family or child when he/she is older, claiming to be a relative or parent, just looking for their 15 minutes? There are so many things to consider when adopting and being famous only adds to the concerns. Adoption is a personal choice and it is none of your business how and from where she chooses to adopt.
12:52 PM on 01/18/2012
Ridiculous argument. Relative's from China can do the same. We need to rescue our own country first, period. It's unethical to ignore the needs of your own people.
