Mark Wahlberg On 9/11 Plane: I Would Have Beat Terrorists, Landed It Safely

UPDATE: Wahlberg has apologized for his 9/11 comment, releasing a statement that says: "To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with, and to suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible. I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention."

PREVIOUSLY: Mark Wahlberg is one of today's biggest action movie stars, but as he sees it, his heroism doesn't end at a film's credits. Instead, he fancies himself a real badass off screen, too.

In a new interview with Men's Journal, Wahlberg says that world history would have been different had he not made a fortuitous decision to fly to Toronto a week early and thus avoid boarding one of the planes out of Boston that crashed into the World Trade Center on September 11th.

"If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did," he tells the magazine. "There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, 'OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.'"

Wahlberg has spoken before of the near-miss, and the action he would have taken had he been on the flight.

"We certainly would have tried to do something to fight," he said in 2006. "I've had probably over 50 dreams about it."

To his credit, Wahlberg is in impeccable shape. Part of what makes him stand out as an action star is his willingness to put himself on the line for a scene.

"[In 'Contraband'] I did all the stunts and then in 'The Fighter' obviously we did all the fighting and we fought and we made it real," he recently told GQ. "If it's necessary then we'll do it."

It worked out; "Contraband" won the box office with a $28.5 million take this past weekend.

Still, Wahlberg has a soft side. He recalls that he cried "about six or seven times" during "The Help," and, walked out of "Straw Dogs" because he did not like the rape scene.

Now a religious man, has markedly changed his sex life -- at least when it comes to his own personal intimacy.

"I don't get down with jerking off, dude. Look. I don't believe in everything that the church says. I try to do the right thing. I lead a clean and pure life. I'm a married guy. I have a beautiful wife. Sex is not the most important thing to me, being horny all the time, spanking the -- I mean, it's not against the law. You can do whatever you want. And it's not like, 'I shouldn't do it because of my faith. I'm just not really that into it that much anyway."

Darn, he had many years to prove his masculinity by joining the Armed Forces of the USA. This is the way the truly Brave, Men and Women, show their worth to our Country. Yes, other ways are great but, this is the true test of pure manhood/womenhood. Especially, making as little as $1200 a Month to start.

I can't say that Marky Mark would've been able to go all 'Sniper' on the terrorists, but I've always said that 9/11 would've gone entirely differently had they tried to hijack a Southwest flight with box-cutters...

Mark, why don't you show some character by looking up the Vietnamese man that you maimed, and sharing a bit of your wealth with him? Literally put your money where your mouth is.

While he was an idiot teenager, he blinded an elderly guy. Now with his incredible wealth, Mark hasn't gone back to help that guy or his family. But he would've stopped 9/11 if he had the chance. Yeah, right.

Mak Wahlberg would have overpowered the terrorists and somehow saved an aircraft, poorly in control, overspeed, which at one point may have exceeded Mach 1.0.......that was in the hands of terrorists willing to crash it to keep it from being liberated......a-yupp......and Carnival Cruise Lines had no idea that its Captains made close to shore 'salutes"

It is very bad luck to say what you would or wouldn't have done in the past, because hypocrisy comes back to you so quickly right now. What is happening is that when you are feeling super physically fit and things are going well, you want to shout those praises to the world, and it is not very well calculated. -"tarotworldtour.wordpress.com"

Marky Mark, wow, first James Woods' unbelievable statement and now yours. Stop believing your movies, dude. 911 caught everyone off guard.

One thing about living around Hollywood is that you are often exposed to the real-world idiocy of many trained actors.

The average audience member forgets that each word spoken in a movie is deliberated-upon and pored-over by the writers many times before being used. Each sentence spoken in a film is shot and reshot many times to achieve a modicum of believability.

Simply put, It's not real, the scenes are contrived, and the actors are never in real life who they portray on screen. Evidently, Mark forgot this for a moment, but to his credit, realized the stupidity of what he said, and wisely recanted. . .good for him.

Oh, Mark. Just stop talking. You're for viewing, not philosophizing.

Oh Marky Mark.....

I seem to recall a story about Mark's idiot sibling getting in a fight with someone on a plane years ago when he still thought he was famous...perhaps Markie Mark should start by being his brothers ass and see if he can even handle that.

It is so sad to see someone believe the lies they live on-screen. I volunteer to punch this dummy in the head a few times to remind him that he is not smart or tough. He is not even a good action actor - what makes him think he would be a hero in real life when he is a zero movie star?

condolizza rice said that nobody could have predicted 911 and planes flying into buildings.. but it was a cover story of popular mechanics a couple years earlier, reporting that the US intel community was tracking those threats. condi lied. bu$h lied. cheney lied. even my family still believes all their lies. clearly i am not impressed by my family one single bit

Oh look! A new 9/11 myth being born!

It's untrue, of course, but that won't stop it from being spread all over the internet.

im really not trying to start any myths, and for the record i find all the 911 "controlled demolition" conspiracy theory to be utter nonsense. the real point i wanted to make was that 911 planes-as-weapons concept was very clearly predicted in many publications, govt agencies, and even hollywood blockbuster films. i looked for the article i was referring to, and not having found it im not gonna defend that point. i DO believe that before 911 the bu$h administration behind closed doors felt an attack on US soil would be welcome

"Immediately following the attacks, President George W. Bush stated that "nobody in our government at least, and I don't the think the prior government, could envisage flying air planes into buildings" and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice claimed no-one "could have predicted that they would try to use an airplane as a missile".

And for his next act, he will personally slap each victims' family member in the face. Or does he have 'people' who do that for him. This is what happens when people actually believe that being a famous actor makes you an authority on everything, like global warming, pipelines, autism and vaccines...they want to get twelve disciples, take up woodworking and believe they can walk on water.
