Carey Mulligan Picks A Red And Tulip-y Dress For London Film Critics' Circle Awards (PHOTOS)

We'd know that cute blonde pixie cut anywhere.

Carey Mulligan, who co-stars with Michael Fassbender in "Shame" is also set to star alongside with Leo DiCaprio in the upcoming adaptation of "The Great Gatsby," is becoming a permanent fixture on the red carpet again after taking somewhat of a brief hiatus last year.

But is Carey ready for a style comeback?

We do love her whimsical cover for January's W, but judging by her dress at tonight's London Film Critics' Circle Awards, we think she might need some more time.

The red color of the Roland Mouret spring 2012 dress looks gorge on Carey, and we love the blue shoes, but what we're not as stoked about are the cutout tulip appliques and the saddlebags (?) of fabric under her armpits.

Check out Carey's dress below and sound off in the comments if you think we're wrong about her look.

Love the tulip cut-outs, gives it that vintage feel. The blue shoes are meant to clash with your regular notion of what-matches-with-red, this dress is all about pushing the boundaries of what we currently define as fashionable. As for the extra fabric underneath the armpits, I think that gives it more of the willowy 1930's feel.

The dress is pretty from the waist down but why on earth did she or her sylist choose blue shoes when back or matching red would have been lovely.

She's so cute though that I can overlook her style mistakes.

She and Kirsten Dunst always look wore out; like they are alcoholics/drug addicts who don't sleep.

Pick a focal point Carey. Either the dress or the shoes--it can't be both.

I wish they wouldnt zoom in on her head. It causes a 'Minnie Driver' effect.

Carey Mulligan must have gotten a lot of guys hitting on her in school.

Retro, but ugly retro. I can't find anything good to say about it. And what IS with the shoes

It looks way too big for her and the white decals on it and the black straps at the neck look out of place. It would be cute minus the black and white junk and if it fit her. Also the shoes go with nothing else she is wearing. EEEKKK!

I like the dress even though I think the flappy underarms are a mistake. But I love retro 1940's dresses. But I hate how she accessorized it.

What is that? I'm scatching my head trying to think of who could make that dress work. Rooney Mara, maybe, with her new look? Don't care for the dress at all.
