Costa Concordia Amateur Video Shows Water Pouring Down Cruise Ship Stairs
Since the Costa Concordia cruise ship hit a rock and capsized last week off the coast of Italy, amateur video shot by passengers has emerged online, showing confusion and chaos during the evacuation process.
In this video, water can be seen pouring down a set of stairs inside the ship, as passengers search frantically for a way out.
Survivors have described the evacuation process as anything but orderly, and have accused the captain and crew of escaping on lifeboats ahead of passengers.
The captain, Francesco Schettino, told investigators this week that he "tripped" and fell intro one of the lifeboats. "Suddenly, since the ship was at a 60-70 degree angle, I tripped and I ended up in one of the boats," Schettino said. "That's how I found myself in the lifeboat."
Five bodies were found in the wreckage Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 11. Twenty one passengers are still missing.
