Regis Philbin may have retired from "Live!" (weekdays on ABC) but on Thursday, it sounded like he had never left. Comedian Dana Carvey guest co-hosted with Kelly Ripa, and broke out an excellent Regis impression.
"Dana greeted me backstage by doing Regis, and there was a moment where I was like, 'Oh my God, he's here?" Ripa told the audience. "It was like, your parents came home early and the Keg party was in full swing," she joked.
Carvey then launched into his Regis impression, and sounded like a pitch-perfect Philbin. "Right now, Regis is watching, he's in his boxers," Carvey said, before getting assuming Regis' persona. "I'm making a Spirulina smoothie over here, Joy c'mon, I need some protein powder, gimme some Spirulina," he said, becoming more excited with each word.
After the mockery was comlpete, Carvey wanted to make sure Regis know that imitation was the most sincere form of flattery. "Kidding Regis, kidding! Love you!" Carvey said, blowing the beloved host a kiss through the TV. Somewhere, the real Regis is chuckling.
