Elizabeth Warren Money Bomb Targets 'The People's Seat'

Elizabeth Warren

WASHINGTON -- In her closely watched bid to unseat Republican Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), consumer advocate and Democrat Elizabeth Warren has decided to use some of the incumbent's own language against him, telling supporters in an email that "it's time we take the 'People's Seat' back from Wall Street and other powerful interests."

The "People's Seat" is a reference to a line used by Brown in 2010, when the longshot candidate insisted that he was not running for "Teddy Kennedy's seat" but instead for "The People's Seat."

It's now Warren who's bidding for it, accusing Brown of becoming a steward of big banks rather than average citizens. The challenger's invocation of the title comes on the day Brown is officially announcing his reelection bid and Warren is launching a "money bomb" -- a one-day flurry of fundraising aimed at sending a message of broad-based support. (Warren solicited donations Thursday in a blog post on the Huffington Post.)

A Warren campaign aide said the bomb has brought in at least $300,000 today alone, on top of more than $500,000 pledged earlier.

This story has been updated to reflect the most recent figures.

Why is everyone so excited about Elizabeth Warren having raised $1M in one day? This in an age when social service charities are shutting down for lack of funds.

Whether it's Browne or Warren, it really doesn't matter: one will take away the money for the poor; the other will simply use it as bargaining leverage. In the end, if you give a shite about your fellow citizens in need, you'll just donate straight away to your local charity.

I wish she'd run for President NOW. There are no real progressive candidates who are fighting for the people. ALL of the others are working for their corporate sponsors and figuring how to fit some bread crumbs in for us.

Elizabeth is one smart cookie. I hope she can win the Senate seat and I hope to see her run for President one day--maybe 2016 or 2020.

Why is Ms. Warren the ONLY Democrat Huffington post is willing to cover? Look down the stories, Republicans, Republican backers, the idiot children of Republicans, but not one Dem legislator, not one Dem governor or Senator or state rep. Except of course the 'barely Democrat' Obama andmin and this one outlier - Elizabeth Warren.

It's been a long time we've had a new candidate that wasn't beholding to Wall St., Big Pharma, for profit health care, or the Ayn Rand ilk like the Koch Brothers.

Donate early & often to Dr. Warren for when the super pacs hit, this is going to be one ugly fight. And don't forget that if you don't have the wherewithal to donate even $5.00 donate your time making phone calls on her behalf.

Teddy's seat was always the "people's seat" until Wall St., bought Browne. And ask yourself, What has Browne done for you?
