Leonardo da Vinci Handbag Sketch Becomes Reality (PHOTO, VIDEO)
Leonardo da Vinci, that literal Renaissance man, is famous for his anatomical studies and, you know, a painting or two.
But fashion-minded historians have also unearthed a sartorial side to the artist, and now one of da Vinci's fashion designs is becoming reality.
A couple decades ago, da Vinci scholar Carlo Pedretti identified the sketch, which is contained in da Vinci's Codex Atlanticus, as a handbag designed by Leonardo da Vinci around 1497, reports The History Blog. That's around the time da Vinci was working on "The Last Supper."
Then, luxury Florence fashion house Gherardini decided to create a handmade calfskin bag based on the sketch, which they've named Pretiosa.
The Italian boutique produced 99 of the bags, which will go on sale in its stores starting March 1, but we're assuming getting your hands on one of these is going to be more difficult than painting the Mona Lisa.
