Nick Jonas To 'Advocate': Jonas Brothers Aren't Gay, We Love Our Gay Fans, And More

As interviews go, a new conversation between The Advocate and Nick Jonas just may be one of the most gay-packed we've read in ages.

The singer and actor, who will take the reigns from Darren Criss and slip into the role of J. Pierrepont Finch in Broadway's revival of "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" on January 24, chatted with the gay magazine about everything from why Perez Hilton is a good gay friend to experiencing his first exposure to gay people during his Broadway debut at the age of 8 in "Annie Get Your Gun."

Jonas also discussed The Jonas Brothers's gay fans and why the band loves them:

"...We love our gay fans. It was definitely cool when we realized that, because the more you can grow your audience, the more people you can impact. They've been incredible over the years. My brothers and I totally look forward to meeting them, because they really respond to our style, and it's cool to see how our influence has impacted what they're wearing. They also give really good gifts at our meet-and-greets -- hats, scarves, and other things. They always have good taste."

Though rumors have swirled around Jonas's sexuality in the past -- especially after a shot of him turned up on Guys With iPhones, a website featuring gay guys who send in iPhone photos of themselves in varying stages of undress -- he confirmed in the interview that (perhaps to the chagrin of their gay fans) none of the Jonas Brothers are gay.

The teen heartthrob dodged a question about whether or not he supports gay marriage ("My thoughts on gay marriage are that everyone has the right to love and be loved, and that's the position I take") but he did sound off on gay bullying and offered some encouraging words to teens who are being tormented:

"Know that there are people out there who can comfort you and give you the support that you need, so tell an authority at school or wherever it is you're being bullied. It really breaks my heart to see that. Bullying is unacceptable, and specifically with gay teens, it's just wrong. Everyone needs to realize that this is a major issue, and we need to do anything we can to help."

For the rest of the interview, which also covers his thoughts on being called "a fag," his upcoming appearance on NBC's highly anticipated new show "Smash," and more, visit The Advocate.

In 2009, gossip sites went wild with headlines that suggested the "Twilight" star was a lesbian. However, a closer look at Stewart's quotes reveals how she was actually responding to a question over the nature of her relationship with co-star Robert Pattinson:
"I've thought about this a lot. There's no answer that's not going to tip you one way or the other. Think about every hypothetical situation. 'OK, we are. We aren't. I'm a lesbian.' I probably would've answered if people hadn't made such a big deal about it. But I'm not going to give the finding an answer."

It's what is popular and hip, I find it bizarre that some aging movie stars are so homophobic. That usually is the first clue with gaydar. What are you afraid of. At least George and Brad don't mind talking about good kissers...

NICK, ARE YOU OR YOUR CREW READING THIS?

You like the nice Gay boys who give you hats? Do you pat them on the forehead, too?

AS FOR DODGING THE MARRIAGE ISSUE ---
SUPPOSE ONE OF YOU THREE WAS ACTUALLY GAY, THINK ON IT
--- would you be OK with him having some halfassed commitment ceremony,
while the others had full weddings, and were recognized as married?

I never understand articles like this. They are musicians. Either you like their music or you don't. What does sexual orientation have to do with it?

Is Tchaikovsky's music better because he was gay? Is Beethoven's music worse because he wasn't?

Verdict's stll kinda out on Beethoven's sexual orientation ... probably not gay, maybe bisexual ... but who knows? He's dead.

Hey, did you hear the one about the time Tchaikovsky went to visit Beethoven's grave? The ground broke open and suddenly, Beethoven sits up in his casket and starts erasing sheets of music.

"Ludwig, Ludwig," says Tchaikovsky. "What are you doing?"

"I'm decomposing ..."

Mea culpa in advance ...

All due respect to Nick, he really can't speak for his brothers in terms of proclaiming their sexuality to the world. For all we know, there's a big talk that one of them is still planning on having with him...

I can't say anything bad about drag queens. There would be not movement for equality of gay people if it were not for Stonewall. A drag bar bust in NY, and they fought back and rioted against the police. Stonewall (the movie) is an excellent movie about this time, and you can get it from Amazon (but not streaming on Amazon) or via Netflix in the mail (also not streaming). I thought it was going to be a documentary and suprised and pleased to find it to be a drama around a historical event. So while some of my friends are embarrased that gay pride parades have drag queens, I know we would not have gay pride if it were not for drag queens.

Good taste is just a fad. Bad taste is eternal.

You owe a debt of gratitude to drag queens, who pushed the envelope, got in the faces of straights and demanded attention. Before Stonewall, to socialize with other gay people, you entered dark bars through back doors opening onto allies, knowing that exposure meant losing their jobs, friends and homes.

If starring at this beautiful face in total awe for more than 30 seconds makes me a gay, then either I am gay or I am a total believer in God. Either way, I can totally understand why this dude would have so many gay fans.

Once in a blue moon I come across a human face I can't take my eyes off of. This is one of those rare specimens. Should I plea guilty?
10:56 AM on 01/23/2012
Even if you found yourself wanting to have sex with him would not necessarily make you gay, just deeply attracted to another human being. Either way, beauty is still something to behold with awe!
11:02 AM on 01/23/2012
I'm a gay man and find I do the same with a truely beautiful woman. Nick Jonas does have this quality of beauty that emanates from him. I understand your post!
