On Thursday, President Obama headed south to the happiest place on earth to talk tourism.

Obama, ever the jokester, opened up his speech along Disney World's Main Street USA by saying Malia and Sasha were quite jealous he was in Florida, before adding, "I am excited to see Mickey. It's always nice to meet a world leader who has bigger ears than me."

Obama laid out plans to speed up visa processing to make it easier for people from China and Brazil, among other nations, to visit the U.S. "People want to come here. And China and Brazil are two of the countries with the biggest backlogs," he said, according to the Chicago Tribune. "So this is what it's all about – telling the world that America is open for business," he added.

"Tourism is the number one service that we export, and that means jobs," the President added.

In response to the speech, Congressional Travel and Tourism Caucus Co-Chair, Congressman Sam Farr (D-Carmel) said in a statement received by the Huffington Post, "The U.S. is home to some of the most exciting and awe-inspiring tourism destinations in the world, attracting people from every corner of the globe who will spend their dollars in our hotels, restaurants and shops. Tourism is a vital economic engine with the potential of creating and supporting millions of jobs and spurring much needed economic development."

Tourism is vital and I support Obama's actions. So many wonderful places to see here in the USA. Hotels, parks, airlines, rental car agencies, small business owners, and so many other groups will benefit from increase in tourism.

Obama 2012!

Now I was hoping that the President could have instead said that customs/border protection officials will be trained not to be so unpleasant to visiting foreigners. I live in the US now and every time I enter the country I'm still treated as if I was a large pile of horse droppings. Stop assuming that every single foreigner who comes to your country wants to work there (and steal jobs from Americans). Trust me, not all of us do!

Obama does Disney. Yep that caught my eye. My first response was why not. He has been doing the country, tax payers and the economy ever since he got elected.

The USA can’t stand 4 more. Get the bump out.

Obama, as president, wants to speed up visa processing !? Now there is some strategic thinking and action-oriented work by our president for getting America back on its feet ! LMAO. The Chinese want to come over here to see the land they soon will have when the USA defaults and the Chinese government basically forecloses on America and begins shipping their people over to America to live. Major manufacturing was once in America; it's now in China. China has the $, the manufacturing technology, raw materials, and worldwide demand. America was once in that position but now finds herself as just another country in line as a consumer. It's only a matter ot time. Just shameful.

That's not the presidents fault. Stop buying the chinese crap. If we didn't have a walmart mentality and want every thing for $9.99 then it wouldn't be a problems.

When is it that after 3 yrs in office it's not his fault? When is it his responsibility after we have defaulted during his 2nd term? OMG=Obama Must Go!

Did my tax dollars just pay for Obama to do a commercial for DisneyWorld?
12:20 AM on 01/20/2012
sure looks like it! i will never be able to afford a vacation, hmm thats what happens when you serve in the military, then they deny benifits when you get sick after war. Never took my family anywhere, i was always TDY to schools. Never spent many holidays with them. Just so glad prez 'bum can take his kids all over the world.

Florida is my state. Walt Disney World is a very special place. When you go there, for a moment, you and your family can forget about the angry mobs marching on Washington DC, the millions of unemployed Americans, the hundreds of thousands of foreclosure homes, and the economic mess.
Walt Disney World has nothing to do with politics, and right now it's one of the few glimmering places of happiness and prosperity left here in the USA ...

Someone in Washington said forget about the economy. But, success and prosperity is what the United States is all about not sit back and put your feet up and tell Mickey Mouse ear jokes...Al-

A one day ticket is $85 for one person! Sure they can forget about the economy......

Al, really, WDW is not a very special place. It's an over-priced and over-crowded amusement park. And it is far from being "one of the few glimmering places of happiness and prosperity left here in the USA." As that famous cartoon character would say - Good grief ! But nice try.

I like the Prez. But I have never liked Disney. I don't like his attitude towards his own workers. He had J Edgar Hoover make a file on all his Jewish animators he imported from NY and Max Fleischer back in the 30s. All they did was ask for better pay. He payed the lowest of any studio in Hollywood.

"Tourism is the number one service that we export, and that means jobs," the President added.

Yeah I bet Disney pays top dollar to employ hot dog vendors and load people into their rides. I bet most Disney employees couldn't afford the admission if they had to pay for it.

Translation:
OK China now that you have all the manufacturing jobs and all our money come on over and spend it so we can pay you back.

China and Brazil have the biggest backlogs of people who want to come here?

Seriously?

Link please.

And, security-wise, I'd sure like to know what type of screening process these applicants are going through before we expose ourselves to them.

It's very relevant stuff here in Florida.
