Jon Stewart Mocks Newt Gingrich 'Open Marriage' Accusation (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 01/20/12 09:13 AM ET Updated: 01/20/12 11:13 AM ET

After a brief update on how well his pal Stephen Colbert is doing in the South Carolina polls, Jon Stewart got back to mocking the more traditional presidential candidates -- specifically Newt Gingrich -- on Thursday night's "Daily Show."

Of course, Stewart couldn't get to the news that Newt Gingrich's second wife accused him of wanting an "open marriage" this week without first addressing Rick Perry dropping out of the race. Just less than six months ago, Stewart feared that Perry was going to be the second coming of George W. Bush, but on Thursday morning he jumped overboard "like an Italian cruise ship captain," as Stewart so aptly put it.

But on to the good stuff: Gingrich's ex claims that before divorcing her (after she developed Multiple Sclerosis) he asked her to be in an "open marriage" because he didn't like her wanting him "all to herself." The idea almost made Stewart sick:

"First wife, cancer, second wife, multiple sclerosis? Can Newt Gingrich be reclassified as a pollutant?"

In part two, Stewart turns to John Oliver to discuss how Gingrich's "champion of traditional marriage" persona doesn't quite makes sense considering that his marital values are constantly being called into question. But, as Oliver points out, to guys like Gingrich, "traditional" marriage essentially means "Powerful men doing whatever the f*ck they want whenever the f*ck they want to."

Watch part one above and see part two below to hear Stewart and Oliver's ideas for how Gingrich can use this latest bombshell to his advantage.

Newtie reminds me of the classic slippery dishonest used car salesman.......................

And the way he tends to trade in his wives for newer models only reinforces the image...............

Newt got rid of one wife for having cancer, the other for having MS. His current wife must be terrified of complaining of a headache at night.

ugh! don't post clips from Hulu! they suck! Comedycentral.com is cool enough to let people OUTSIDE of the US watch, yet Hulu restricts which in turn restricts your content. Leave sucky Hulu out of the equation. thanks!

In the way he treats women, Newt reminds me of the Jack Nicholson character in Carnal Knowledge.

I agree with Mr. Rich who claiming his privacy of infidelity, & timing of reveling by news media. I don't think we could stick our noses to any body's sexual preferences, & privacies. The problem is that he should come out with his philosophy at the time when similar scandals of Mr. Cain came out. I don't like his idea of it's an out of ROMANCE, & should be protected for himself while infidelity of others should be punished. That is hypocrite, & ultimately wrong.

The whole point is that this is a man who has been trying to tell people for decades how they should live and what he thinks *their* marriage should be.

Lobe the way that the third wife has converted Newt to Catholicism.

Are this couple allowed to participate in mass. He has divorced twice and she developed a relationship with him even though he has two other wives and while he was still living with one.

Trash.

Yep. Unfortunately. You can't participate if you were divorced as a catholic and were married as a catholic. He's done neither, yet, so he can participate in communion. Anyone can attend mass, it's participation in communion incidentally.
