Occupy Chicago Office Space: Movement Opens Headquarters In Pilsen As Temperatures Drop

As Temperatures Drop, Occupy Chicago Moves To Indoor Headquarters

Occupy Chicago is hosting an open house Saturday to showcase the movement's new office space in Pilsen.

In an announcement posted on the group's website, supporters are welcomed to the movement's "working units" on the fifth and seventh floors at 500 W. Cermak for an evening of live music and entertainment and activities, including stations where visitors can create their own Occupy Chicago gear.

The Occupy Chicago movement has been centrally located at Jackson Boulevard and LaSalle Street, at the seat of the Chicago Board of Trade building, and has used Grant Park to stage demonstrations and hold meetings.

"We put a lot of work into getting some indoor office space and we want showcase it," organizers wrote in the online announcement.

The group plans to pay the space's $5,600 monthly rent with money from their collective donation fund, according to the Chicago Tribune. Organizers say the space, which takes up about 5,900 square feet between two floors, will be used only for office work, not for housing demonstrators.

Having an indoor space will undoubtedly be an asset in maintaining membership and involvement as temperatures drop and snowfall begins in Chicago.
