Legendary college football coach Joe Paterno died on Sunday after a battle with lung cancer.

The former Penn State Football coach's career spanned 46 seasons during which he won 409 games and two national championships.

But his career came to an abrupt end after the Jerry Sandusky scandal broke, casting a shadow over Paterno's legacy. That shadow was present in many of the reactions to his passing, sometimes more respectfully than others.
