Steven Tyler National Anthem: Star Sings At AFC Championship Game (VIDEO)

Steven Tyler National Anthem

Steven Tyler sang the National Anthem at Sunday's AFC Championship game. It probably wasn't his best work.

The Aerosmith frontman struggled a bit throughout his pre-game rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner," singing with a raspier-than-normal voice through Francis Scott Key's iconic patriotic tune. He had trouble hitting the signature high note, which is a far cry from his heralded days leading one of the biggest bands of the 70s and 80s.

As a judge on "American Idol," who decides if singers have the chops to make it big, the performance probably won't do him any favors when it comes to handing down the fate of aspiring artists.

The rendition didn't hurt his hometown team, though; the New England Patriots advanced to the Super Bowl with a 23-20 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The Star Spangled Banner is one of the hardest songs to sing. If you want justice done to it, just have Josh Groban sing it every year. He never forgets the words and he hits every note perfectly.

I agree with most of the comments. That is the what Steven Tyler sonds like. He sang it that way at a hockey game in 2002. I bet all the Aerosmith fans, like myself, appeciated it. If you don't want a Steven Tyler version next time ask Harry Connick Jr to sing. I like his music too but it is not the same as Steven Tyler's. There would be no complaints if he did it with a band behind him, as the others say get a life people.

There was absoulutely nothing wrong with his rendition of the STB. I can't believe there has been any controversy, what a joke. Get lives, people!

Certainly not worse than his Indy 500 performance about 10 years ago.

I have respect for Tyler. Rock and Roll is not always about being beautiful and perfect and Tyler often sings with a storm of raw emotions that is classic and potent as a voice for the ages. Rock on Steven!

Tyler's rendition was the best I've heard in years. Go Steven!

It's a hard song and Tyler did a good job. He stayed on key, and the article was wrong--he did hit the high note. It's fun to hear different interpretations of the song, makes it more interesting.

He sounded like he always does and I love him for it! Also, he knew the lyrics.

You should put your hand over your heart when the National Anthem is sung, not over your ears.
