NEW YORK -- A disgraced broker already in prison for engineering a $100 million mortgage fraud pleaded guilty Monday to orchestrating a murder-for-hire scheme targeting a witness who testified against him, Manhattan prosecutors said.

From his prison cell in upstate New York, Aaron Hand, 40, arranged for an initial $150 payment to an undercover police officer posing as a hit man, according to court documents. In a lengthy conversation in a prison visiting area caught on tape by investigators, Hand said he would pay $2,000 after the murder was completed.

"I wish I was there -- to watch him suffer," Hand told the undercover cop, prosecutors said.

He also directed that if the indented target's wife and young children were at home when the murder took place, they should also be killed to eliminate them as possible witnesses, according to prosecutors.

Hand, formerly of Oyster Bay Cove, N.Y., and the ex-president of AFG Financial Group, was convicted in 2010 of orchestrating a massive mortgage fraud involving the sale of distressed real estate to investors at inflated prices and profiting as the properties fell into foreclosure.

At his sentencing for the fraud conviction, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Carol Berkman called Hand "arrogant" and noted that he "lived very high" on his ill-gotten gains.

Now Hand, already serving 8 to 25 years for the fraud scheme, faces many more years behind bars at his sentencing for the murder conspiracy charges on Feb. 6.

In a statement, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said Hand's plot "struck at the heart of the justice system."

"Nothing is more important than the safety of witnesses," Vance said.

Guess he didn't understand why his fellow prisoners are called "cons." In addition to negating any chance at early parole, you can bet the additional sentence will be served consecutively. Chances are he'll serve 20 years.

People like this man are the real terroists. Come on, you cant get a bad used car for $2000.00 with $150.00 down. These people will even use murder to cover their "legal" terror in the financial sector.

There should be dancing in the streets. I wonder how many people lost their homes due to this man. I really hope he enjoys his time in prison but I bet he ends up in one of those country club prisons.

There really are no country club prisons in NY. He is currently in jail with particularly nasty folks and you can bet it will continue to be that way as long as he is there.

I heard his defense was to blame the liberal media, and that Obama's a socialist.

Just as an FYI...the "witness" was actually a cooperating defendant who was actually worse than this guy. Interesting how Vance's office and the news leaves that detail out. The witness - Frank Miale, not only committed vast amounts of mortgage fraud, he also engineered the theft of elderly people's homes through forged deeds with Maria Albertina (look this winner up who was arrested 3x for the same thing, let out on bail to continue to commit the same crimes so she could pay the DA).

And, Frank Miale is still free and continuing his crime spree (paid the NY DA too) but that is justice I guess.

I would have let the contract go through and then busted the guy for making it. Yep, I'm awful, but I'm, also, fed up.
