4-year-old Girl Reports Fugitive Dad To Police: John Colby Found Hiding In Attic

MASSENA, N.Y. -- Kids say the darndest things, especially when daddy is trying to hide from the police.

State police say troopers went to John Colby's home in Massena in northern New York on Sunday morning to serve two warrants for his arrest for failure to appear in court for vehicle and traffic violations.

Troopers say Colby's 27-year-old live-in girlfriend told them she didn't know where Colby was. But then the couple's 4-year-old daughter chimed in, telling police that "daddy is scared and hiding in the attic."

Troopers checked out the attic and found the 30-year-old Colby. He was charged with bail jumping, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest.

Colby was being held in the St. Lawrence County jail pending a court appearance Wednesday. It couldn't be determined if he had a lawyer.

Poor girl, might get sentenced to a foster home or grandparents. If the dad is fugitive it is most unlikely for him to have a lawyer much less a defense for himself.

I agree, it is cute. And Mama was cruising for a charge of her own. I know a woman who hid her wanted husband from police and she got 10 years probation. He had a clean record before she did.

Don't get me wrong. But, I am all for men and women stick by their spouses, even if that spouse is a cold blooded, serial killer. While it may not be common sense, but that is what love should do. Stick it out and try to be a light in darkness.

But, love would never call for a sacrifice or doing in order for it to be right. It is sad these people are so confused how one can love and still do the right thing like this little girl.
