Fred Thompson Endorses Newt Gingrich Ahead Of Florida Primary (VIDEO)

First Posted: 01/23/2012 9:45 pm Updated: 01/24/2012 1:42 am

Fred Thompson, who made an unsuccessful bid for the Republican presidential nomination during the 2008 election cycle, endorsed Newt Gingrich in this year's GOP primary race on Monday night.

Thompson declared his support for the former House Speaker during an appearance on Sean Hannity's Fox News program. The announcement came as Gingrich -- along with Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul -- were participating in a debate in Florida.

"I have come to the growing realization that Newt Gingrich is the guy who can articulate what America is all about," Thompson said.

Thompson served as a Republican U.S. senator from Tennessee from 1994 through 2003. He has also held acting roles on NBC's TV show "Law & Order" and a number of action movies.

After failing to gain traction in early primary states in 2008, Thompson abandoned his presidential campaign and later threw his support behind eventual nominee John McCain.

This is a developing story... More information to come...

It reallly disturbs me when people comment that we are 'getting desparate' if we do not like the Republican candidates, or bash the person we support because we support President Obama. Our President has accomplished a great deal under the most obstructionist of circumstances - research it, don't take 'hearsay' as fact. Too many still do. To those, I say - do the research! Our President is doing a  Read More...

Newt Gingrichs latest "Enemy"
In tghe 50's and 60's Alinsky fought hard against the prejudices in the largely ethnic enclaves of Chicago. He worked tiressly for the poor and disenfranchised.
That's the legacy of Saul Alinsky, Newt, you can find it wherever he or his ideas have played out. And when Saul Alinsky was awarded the Pacem In Terris Award, by a number of Catholic archdioceses and organizations in 1969 he became one of an honorable group of recipients. Among them, well, John F. Kennedy, George Kennan, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Martin Luther King Jr., Sargent Shriver, A. Philip Randolph, Mother Teresa and Lech Walensa. Maybe, Newt, you might want to add all these names with Saul Alinsky's to your own Enemies List.
Newt, you are truly an idiot,.

Thompson wasn't much of a senator, and was less of an actor, then he tried to become a politician again by running for president. Then he supported McCain who is probably one of the least conservative republicans in congress. It's no wonder that this clown is supporting Newt.

Newt Gingrich is toxic beyond belief! And the GOP heads knows this better than anyone. His campaign is a circus act that will not sell enough tickets outside of the deep south to even hold onto the House, let alone take the Senate or win the Presidency. The nightmare scenario continues with their fear that a Gingrich heading the ticket would cost governorships and state legislatures throughout the North, Midwest and Left coast.

Furthermore, the Speaker’s coded and incendiary rhetorical style, when displayed in a contest with Obama, could easily put his party in the unflattering position of appearing to defend some old regional prejudices and attitudes. They sure don’t need that! In summary, the ruling Republican establishment knows it must prevent Gingrich’s nomination before it destroys their party’s status as a major political entity for a generation to come!

Reverse mortgages and now Newt. Your going down Fred.

So America is about fornicaters, liars, hypocrites. Year Fred, go back to banging the sheep on the farm.

LOL Sorry, Fred doesn't live on a farm. He lives in a multi-million dollar mansion with his very young wife.

Fred loves to pretend he is just like every other working man/woman. When he was campaigning the last election...........old Fred would dress up in jeans/shirt/boots, and then drive up in an old battered pickup at all his speeches. Once over, he would drive away in his good old boy clothes and pickup; to awaiting limo..........then to his lear jet. Ya, old Freddie is just like us!

Poor Fraud Thompson, all he has to look forward to is being the spokesperson for fraudulent reverse mortgages....What a freaken JOKE he turned out to be......

I think its wonderful that applauding the candidates comments was banned by Brian Williams it was a good and valiant attempt to "keep 'em honest!!", I think applauding should be banned from all future debates..whose to say the candidates wouldnt stoop so low as to pay "applauders" and/or stack the Arena with people assigned to applaud them the most and the loudest?!! It gives the impression that one candidate has "one upped" the other and that is not the case in lots of instances and it sends the "novice" political viewers the wrong impression!!

Gomer Pyle endorses Gingrich.

Well, gollllllleeeeee!

Now, if he can only nudge his cousin Goober to join up, Newt's a lock...........................................for being slaughtered by our president.

Since I was for Fred Thompson in the last Republican nomination during the last election, I am elated that he has the foresight to know that Newt is the one who knows what needs to be done to turn this country around. As several of the candidates at the debate last night echoed the fact that it is going to take a lot of hard work....not only for or by the President that is elected in 2012, but as an American, I believe we shall all be a part of turning this country around. First and foremost, we need to put God back into this country.
